About Me

IMPORTANT

If you're considering hosting me or crashing at my place, please read my whole profile. Couchsurfing experiences can be wonderful and eye-opening, IF you seek the right people. And it can be dull or awkward if you choose the wrong people.

CURRENT MISSION

Meeting people, sharing experiences, making food and music.

ABOUT ME

I'm a very easy going guy. I love meeting authentic people, going out (or staying in) for a drink, talking about life, cooking and the arts in general.

I'm very passionate about design, paint, music, films, cooking, photography, etc. I used to play the piano when I was younger, learned a bit of guitar a few years later, like to sing and am now learning percussion instruments =)

I'm a liberal, open-minded guy and very down to earth. Sometimes vegetarian, sometimes buddist.

I'm pretty independent and can get around by myself. Depending on the country I might have some language barriers, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? But my main interest in traveling is meeting people, so I'd love it if I could hang out with and around locals.

Visiting museums is pretty cool, but I'd take a day-fair or arts festival any day over a museum. I'm very much interested in getting to know the people and culture that is being created and continued locally.

I'm not much of a clubbing person, but I love going out to parties, pubs, street festivals and music. I'm a very social guy. I'm also a coffeeholic. I like getting to know good coffee in every city I visit, as these tend to be the best places to sit down, talk, read and think.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a good person
I like the Buddist way of seeing life, people and dealing with problems
I believe this is the only life I'll have (as Lucas, anyway), so I intend to make the best of it.
I'm a feminist
I believe in equal rights, regardless of anything, and in the protection of the vulnerable
I think the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. Not just romantically speaking, because I consider it important to bring joy and love and laughter to other people. What is the point of all this, if not that?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm kind of a noob, but I'm always respectful of other people, their space, their rules and their routine. I believe this is step one in having good relationships and friendships.

WHY I'M ON COUCHSURFING

Hotels are boring.

Also, I don't want to know cities as a tourist? Going to Corcovado and Sugar Loaf in Rio? No thanks, I prefer Praça São Salvador and Lapa. When I travel, I want to know cities as locals do: their favourite bars, best places to meet friends, best things to do during the day or night.

Interests

I already mentioned I'm a coffee aficionado. I also love good beers, especially IPAs, APAs and PAs. I mostly drink the cheap stuff, tho, in order to save money (UNLESS I'm in Belgium). I heartfully agree with Nietzsche that life without music would be pointless, although I'm not as nihilistic as him. I love cooking, and believe that it is one of the most interesting ways to share culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

There's just too much to go in here. The short answer is 'yes'.

I don't listen much to trance, dubstep and some other stuff, but I pretty much like music in all genres. I'm currently listening to a lot of Chet Faker, Daft Punk, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Céu, Otto, Novos Baianos, Boogarins.

I'm always listening to Beatles, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Os Mutantes, Pink Floyd, Lorde, Los Hermanos.

I love movies, but I never seem to remember the names nor the names of actors. I like Kubrick, Allen, Fincher, Iñárritu, Cuarón and Gondry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Psicodalia festival in Santa Catarina, 2013. The most amazing festival I've ever been to, where everyone had the same peaceful, compassionate and loving state of mind.

Backpacking through Europe with almost zero money for 40 days. What doesn't kill you...

Teach, Learn, Share

I love food
As you cook, you talk, you socialize, you get to know people.
Also, food is culture. Every food has an origin, has a story of how you learned to cook it. It's a way to learn about customs and tradition.
And, perhaps above all, to cook for someone is to give them a gift. It is to feed them, it is to show them you care. The secret to good food it doing it with care, with love.

Moving beyond the explicit act of teaching something, such as cooking or photography, I believe that just by getting to know people and letting them know you, you'll naturally teach, learn and share. We are, after all, incredible beings, capable of incredible things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories, ideas, opinions and maybe even some biased truths.

I can teach what I know and what I believe to be cooking, photography and a bit of music. I can help you practice english or portuguese, although I'm far from what you would call a teacher.

To be honest, I'm more inclined to learn from people than to teach them things.
