About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Life is to live now. No sense in waiting until retirement.

ABOUT ME

Mike is a teacher at a continuation high school. He has a llama and two goats to which I lay no claim. He is all set to start a beehive-he has everything but the bees which should be arriving in the mail (?!) sometime this month. He likes movies and national parks, a good book and long walks on the beach (cue the laughter).

My hobbies are transient, I might cook (though not well), I might quilt (though not well), I might excercise (though not well), I might make jam (REALLY well!). Socializing, eating and reading are at the top of my list as well.
I love my job as an emergency dept. RN though I do not conside myself an adrenaline junkie. As a member of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team CA6 (a federalized response team), I have been a part of history in the making as we have responded to disasters. I also volunteer my time as an RN at a free clinic locally and have worked in the Grande Anse region of Haiti for the past 6 years.

And travel. Any time. Any where.

PHILOSOPHY

Travel is good for the soul.

Life is not a journey to the grave
With the intention of
Arriving safely in a pretty
And well preserved body,
But rather to skid in broadside,
Thoroughly used up,
Totally worn out,
And loudly proclaiming,

WOW !!!! What a ride!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

From the fringes but am ready should somone need a couch or want to meet for coffee!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our young, beautiful daughter joined CS and started traveling solo, much to our fear. She had nothing but good things to say about it so decided to check it out.
We hope to be able to host as our home seems to have settled down from it's Revolving Door Syndrome and we miss that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Mary Poppins, Say a Prayer for Owen Meany, any black and white buddy/Doris Day/Jimmy Stewart movie when I'm sick (and that hasn't happened in decades), GWTW (movie and book), The Kings Speech, How the Irish Saved Civilization, the Bible, Silence of the Lambs, 1984, American Graffiti, the lists are endless. Well, not quite. I'm not a big sci/fi/fantasy fan.
My mood dictates my music and I'm never in the mood for rap or hip/hop,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Part of a federal response team to Superdome during Katrina. No words can describe it. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Haiti over the years and then for two weeks post-earthquake. What an honor.
Being a grandparent-is there anything better? I think not!
