ABOUT ME

We are Bill and Kate Brown. We met dancing in Saratoga Springs, NY. We fell in love travelling in Italy. We were married on a mountain in Georgia in 2005, and we try to fill our lives with adventure and love.

We enjoy having deep conversations over morning tea. Bill likes to cook, Kate doesn't like to clean, and we both love spending time with our daughter, who is goofy and cute and marinated in the juices of travel.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have been hosting CouchSurfers for years now. It has been a great gift to us, to meet such interesting people and learn about other places, as well as to share our home and our city with guests. We also surf ourselves and have had wonderful experiences in Sacramento, CA; Barcelona, Catalonia; Koblenz, Germany; Sydney, Australia; Ko Tao, Thailand, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Oh, and we enjoy the CS weekly meet-ups when we can make them!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've had more great experiences than we can say. But as an example of this fantastic CS community, we once hosted a woman from Barcelona a couple weeks before we ourselves traveled there. When we couldn't find a couch to surf, she set us up with her brother and his girlfriend. They proved to be amazing, kind, beautiful people who blessed us with their friendship. After three days we left, in tears and with heartache, so sad to leave our new fast friends. Our hosting one person expanded the hearts and lives of five people! That is the magic of CouchSurfing.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

It is hard to answer this for two people, and there are so many it is hard to know where to begin, but here are some we both agree on:

Books: The Poisonwood Bible, The Brothers Karamazov, The Lord of the Rings, Watership Down (Bill likes reading Naomi Novik; Kate likes reading Karl Marx)

Movies: The Last Unicorn, Willow, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings (Bill likes James Bond, Kate prefers Fight Club)

Music: Generally the folk music of the 1960s and 1970s: Joni Mitchell (her early stuff), Simon and Garfunkel, Pete Seeger, Stan Rogers, Nick Drake. We also like classical music, like "Scheherezade," and "Firebird." And we like contemporary folk music, such as Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

We fell in love in Italy. What a place to fall in love! We will never forget the light shimmering on the water in Venice or the way the climbing roses shivered in the wind in Cinque Terre. There are many wondrous things to see and do, but love is by far the best. Love in Italy...better still!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Kate can teach sociology, ballet and Russian.
Bill can teach house rennovation, karate and guitar.
Mostly, we can both overwhelm you with stories of the places we've been, the people we've met, and the crazy and wonderful experiences we have accumulated.

We are easy going, friendly, but we do have a toddler so you can imagine what that entails!
