About Me

My name is Marialyce. I am a former school administrator, a mom, a traveler, and a seeker. I just spent a month at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur California, learning and growing! I have learned over time that everyone has their story - and every story has heartache, joy, maybe trauma, hopefully, love. It is a priviledge to hear another's story and to share my own. I know life to be short and the world to be waiting. I generally want to dig in, feel the day. Beauty, music, NATURE, tantalizing food and drink... I am just grateful to be alive and moving. I am also a mother to two wonderful adult children. I love traveling with my kids, with other friends and on my own. This I've learned..."traveling, it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller". It's the speechless part I'm most interested in. The world is chockfull of awe and wonder. We just need to get out, to bump into it.
I’ve surfed just once- but my traveling companion made the arrangements, so it doesn’t “show”. I look forward to many more opportunities to surf and host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Trust. I am intrigued, grateful and just excited to become a part of a community that is built on trust. Our world encourages mistrust and fear. Couchsurfing presents another perspective in action, in an intimate way- sharing your home.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot but favorites? Hmm. I love the writing in "the Hours", "the Tender Bar", "the Goldfinch"..."First you have to Row a Little Boat" by Richard Bode, "Agincourt" by Bernard Cornwell......Movies? In Bruge, George of the Jungle (Brendan Frazer), the books and TV series Outlander...Music? I am a musical moron in terms of knowing who I am listening to! I love all music but for discordant jazz. I do very much like Leonard Cohen's poetry and music and the poetry of Rilke. I do have a special thing for Irish music!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Planned a trip to Vieques - off the coast of Puerto Rico, so that we might be there on moonless nights, in order to swim in an otherworldly bio bay. Swimming through dark, warm water, thrilled by the magic of my every movement generating streaks of bioluminescence, was like nothing I have every done. Complete and utter awe!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to share my good friend Katherine's blog site, Don't deley. Her last name is Deley, so no, this is not a typo! (@don'tdeley). Katherine is a particulary inspiring person who possesses an inordinately positive perspective on life and desires to encourage us all to recognize our desires and move forward, now. You will find an uplifting, encouraging message for you at Don't Deley!
