Hi,
I'm Maria, german, 25-years, born and raised in Bavaria.
I've lived in several places in Germany so far, and recently decided to study in the beautiful city of Mainz. I'm a midwife and start now my first semester in medicine studies. My schedule is super busy with lectures and I usually spend my free weeks in Portugal at my boyfriend's place, but nevertheless I would be happy to welcome travellers at my place after having travelled so much by myself.

The first big journey of my life started 2018. I was supposed to be 6 months on the road. It turned out that I came back to Germany after 14 months and have travelled to 20 countries. But that's a longer story ;) And it's Silas, who I met on the way and came back with together. I'm grateful to know him as my boyfriend for more than five years now.
Since then we used every opportunity to discover new places of this beautiful planet. The list of new countries keeps extending!
Once you got it into your blood, you will never loose it.
In 2024 we started another big journey, travelling from Germany to Turkey overland, and after that we explored all the countries in Centralamerica by hitchhiking.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

From 2018 I've been backpacking, using every opportunity to hit the road, and visited 50 countries so far... Well, "visited" doesn't sound like the right thing... I'd better say "experienced", because I never just visited just all those tourist stuff... There happened so much on my way (later on OUR way, when I met my boyfriend Silas).
I saw different families living together, tried so many different dishes, smelled different air, learned a lot about different histories and costumes, and met so many different people on my way.
And everybody kind of opened a door to an other world where he's living and how he's thinking.

I'd definetively call it an experience of my lifetime.
And I'm totally grateful for it.

The most part was because of this amazing idea of Couchsurfing. I don't know what would have happened if we wouldn't have met so many lovely people all around the world. I just need to say thank you to this community!
And I want to give it back, as much as I can.

Life is like a universe. Everyone is individual and still we are all connected.

Stop prejudging at first sight, instead try to get to know this person. Wasn't every friend once a stranger? ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love reading at all!!
I'm this kind of traveller who loves it to discover these famous book exchange boxes - those you can find in hostels or some city centers...:)) The idea, that you can give your finished book away and find a new one for travelling, is pretty cool :)

But the best books are still the ones I've written by myself ;)

Music: Whitney Houston, Andrea Bocelli, Eddie Vedder, John Denver, Queen, John Lennon, several Cover-Bands and much more!!

Movies: Breaking Boundaries (highly recommend!), Lord of the rings, Where the crawdads sing, Into the wild, Mona Lisa Smile,... Generally I'm much into old movies or documentaries.
Tell me your suggestions ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stepping out of my comfort zone.
The rest just followed.

Teach, Learn, Share

Life is an awesome adventure. We just need to take the courage to make the best out of it.
___

After finishing highschool I took all my savings and packed my backpack for flying to the other side of the world. But I didn't expect any of all this stuff that happend to me along the way.
Best of all, I met the love of my life in New Zealand, on the other side of the world. Since then I'm happy to have explored the world with him for the last five years and we will keep on doing so. 🇳🇿 ❤️

Planning your travels into every detail doesn't work. Planning LIFE doesn't work. The best things will happen if you allow opportunities to just show up on your path.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd like to share experiences, but I'm very interested my host's stories, too. People say, I'm a good listener ;)

And I'd always offer to cook something for my hosts or share groceries. I can cook many vegan dishes. My friends, family and my boyfriend use to say that I'm a great chef. I think the ingredient love makes the difference ;)
