I study linguistics and take part in linguistic expeditions every six months. I go to far corners of Russia, to small villages, where people speak rare indigenous languages, which are completely not spoken in large cities, and research these languages.

What else can I say?
I am always open to new people and experiences. I have an inquisitive mind, boundless enthusiasm and optimistic approach to difficult situations!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been abroad many times, but these were mostly short tourist trips with a lot of sightseeing and a great number of other tourists around. But only when I lived in a foreign country for several months, I experienced for the first time how amazingly different life in other countries can be.

I think that the best way to gain some insight into an unfamiliar culture is to get lost without a map in a huge number of unfamiliar streets, to talk a bit to people in public transport or to look for an open supermarket after 11 p.m.

Of course, I will never fully understand what it means to live in another country or to be a part of a different culture, but nevertheless I would like to try!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like different music: classical music, rock'n'roll, jazz, rock and metal. But I mostly listen to British and American music of the 20th century and to modern German and French music. In different periods of my life I loved Elvis Presley, The Doors, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Jefferson Airplane, Ray Collins Hot Club, Ray Charles, Manu Chao, Lui Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Katzenjammer...
Since I've lived some time in Germany, I've heard a lot of German music and I like it. Especially Die Ärzte, Wise Guys, Dota und Die Stadtpiraten, Die Fantastischen Vier, Wir sind Helden.
I also adore French music (and language as well! would like to learn it one day). Music by La rue ketanu, Louise attaque, Debout sur le Zinc and Noir Désir is awesome!

I love Russian literature. My favorite writers are Strugatsky brothers. I also adore Ernest Hemingway, Francis Scott Fitzgerald and Steven King, I have read a lot of Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov. And I quite like reading books by Joanne Rowling and J. R. R. Tolkien.
