About Me

Putting this right at the top: I am no longer able to host. I have a special needs cat and she does not do well with strangers. However, I am always happy to meet up and show you some of my favourite spots in Vancouver, particularly if you're a foodie or into craft beer and/or hiking!

***

You could say that travelling's in my blood. My intrepid parents first put me on a plane at the tender age of two weeks (yes, weeks!) Since then, I've taken quite comfortably to the skies. Growing up as a Third Culture Kid navigating the nuances of home, identity, and rootlessness, I now consider Vancouver, Canada home, or the closest thing to it.

My journey has taken me to dozens of countries and counting. A few years ago, I spent some time in the United Kingdom working on my Masters, focusing on social media and political partisanship. I've recently started working with a federal initiative that aims to make health data more accessible across the country. I'm inspired by the potential for technology to catalyze social and political change, and would love to hear insights from people all over the world.

Since returning to Vancouver, I've been rediscovering this gem of a city. I can't wait to show you around – be it for a night out on the town, a transit-friendly hike, or devouring the best sushi this side of the Pacific Ocean has to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first Couchsurfed in 2009 as I embarked on a cross-Canada backpacking trip. A year later, I started hosting during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. It's been a whole decade of exploring the world with locals and seeing my home through new eyes!

Couchsurfing has been an incredible way to gain new experiences and share in diverse perspectives and ideas, no matter where I've ended up – sometimes without even leaving the comfort of your own home.

Note: If you're checking out my references, a lot of my earlier hosting references appear under "Personal".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every mountain I hike and ocean I paddle in fills me with awe. Like, damn, look at this fine planet we live on.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're staying with me, feel free to weed through my library. I primarily own non-fiction books on Canadian and American politics, feminism, history, economics, and psychology. I've also started to build a small collection of Young Adult fiction, and recommendations are always welcome.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking and sharing food is probably the cornerstone of any social interaction. Beyond nourishment and sustenance, food holds cultural and historical significance, and I think that's beautiful. For a large part of my life, discovering the cuisines of my heritage was key to understanding and realizing my identity. I love to cook for my hosts and/or guests and share in the notion of breaking bread, of bridging gaps between cultures. I would love if you were to teach me about your local cuisine.
