Bonjour! I'm Mathilde, a French student living in Sweden:) I'm doing my master's in Global Environmental History in Uppsala. I grew up in the Pyrénées mountains, which I feel very lucky about. I have always been hiking and travelling around with my family, and I can say it stuck with me. I'm always excited to discover new places, especially around Sweden, since I'm new to this country. I like to read, to dance, and more importantly, to eat (very basic but very true). I love to talk to people and to learn about their life stories. I feel like it's the main way I get a sense of where I'm going in life, because people's stories inspire me. For references, you can look on my friend's profile: George Howell :)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
During my Erasmus in Berlin, we decided to go around Germany for the break between semesters, with 3 of my friends. We took the train and wanted to couchsurf to meet people along the way and make it more affordable. I have a very good memory of this experience, and I think that couchsurfing was definitely a main reason why. It was fun to meet people from different cities, ages, backgrounds and to be able to see the place through their eyes. As international students, we never really mixed up with German people in Berlin. This is why I think it made it extra special to have all these encounters. I got to understand the country and the people there better; it was super nice. This experience makes me want to do it again, this is why I'm here!
Music, Movies, and Books
The music genres I listen to the most are afrobeats, reggae and French rap, I would say. I've been obsessed with "Toucher l'horizon" by Oxmo Puccino recently. Listening to it while cycling to uni is a vibe. Book-wise, I really like the author Tracy Chevalier. I've read a lot of her books. Generally, I never say no to a historical novel or life stories. I'm also slowly getting into poetry, thanks to Dany Lafferière. I love 90s movies like Rainman, Fried Green Tomatoes, Forrest Gump... I also enjoy French movies like Beating Hearts!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach French, I guess. I don't have a lot of specific skills to teach, but as I wrote earlier, I really like to cook. I can also teach how to braid and play the guitar, actually. Things I would love to learn would be knitting, sewing, woodworking, ceramics... this kind of stuff. I want to get more manual because I've never learned this kind of skill, and I would really enjoy being able to make things with my hands. I can share more than I can teach, haha. I can share my story, stories from my friends... That's the main thing. I've studied history in my bachelor's, and also spent time in the cultural sector while working for a music festival. At the moment, my big topic, because of what I study, is the environment and everything related to how fucked up our political and economic systems are :)) Good thing is that we have so many solutions in front of us.
What I Can Share With Hosts
