About Me

Back in Tas after travelling Aus with my partner. I can’t host anyone, although I am able to show travellers around Hobart or bake you some vegan sweets as I love cooking.

Hey I'm Matt a 24 year old Aussie guy from Hobart, Tasmania. I am happy, relaxed, caring, open-minded and accepting of all people no matter their age, gender, religion, sexuality, race, ethnicity and nationality. As a surfer I am a quiet and respectful guest who tries to help where possible and avoids disrupting the normal home environment too much. I enjoy learning from new experiences, that uneasy feeling when out of my comfort zone and I will try almost anything once. I have had a very comfortable and fortunate life so now I want to learn about how other people live and their perspective on everything to appreciate just how lucky I am.

I play 2 sports, cricket and Australian football (see my photos). I enjoy working with children and have coached Australian football, cricket and swimming. Completed an exercise science degree at uni in Tasmania, Australia with plans to study physiotherapy sometime in the future. I enjoy cooking and find it really satisfying to find and cook new recipes for my family and friends and can prepare any vegan food. I like all animals a lot which is one of the main reasons I decided to go vegan in 2017. My family and I have been raising guide dogs (to assist visually impaired/blind people) since 2005, we have looked after over 50 dogs. I volunteered at the RSPCA (dog shelter) walking lost/abandoned dogs which was a fun opportunity. I volunteer at an op shop which is fun. Have an interest in looking after the environment and learning to become a minimalist, which makes you realise what you actually need in your life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've wanted to travel but made excuses like not having someone to go with, CS allows me to travel and meet like-minded people. I hope to be shown around other countries and experience things I wouldn't have done on my own, then repay the favour in the future when showing you around my hometown and helping you to experience all Tasmania has to offer. I've made some good friends from CS, shown travellers around my hometown and had great experiences with local hosts while travelling.
