About Me

I like getting up early, and I like strong black tea. It helps with the 'early' part. My "3 Rs" would be reading, writing, and running. Write in the morning, run in the evening.

I grew up in California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Texas. I went to college in Connecticut then lived in NYC. I moved to Carolina del Norte in 2011.

My favorite places I've traveled have been in British Columbia and the Appalachian mountains. Maine, Northern California, Washington, and Idaho are serious runners up in the U.S.

In autumn, my partner and I are moving to Greensboro, NC, where I'm starting grad school. We won't be able to travel as much when I'm in school, so come visit us with your exciting tales of foreign locales.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

All of my hosting and surfing has been with my partner, Jean. Her profile is here -- https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/jean-willoughby

So, why I'm interested in couches, an exposition. Just kidding. Traveling is a lovely way to meet people, but it's harder to do that if you stay to yourself or in limited company in 'accommodations' that tend to separate you from others and prevent you from getting a real sense of what life is like in a place. Like many fellow people of the couch, I believe hosting people, being a good guest, and sharing what we have are more authentic ways to travel. Showing hospitality and kindness are some of the best ways to get to know people.

Back in the day, I helped host people in NYC at my old place for about a year with a group of housemates. I moved to North Carolina in 2011. It's pretty nice and contains more than its share of mountains, waterfalls, beaches, and forests.

Our couch is your couch. Come visit!
