About Me

Hi, welcome to my profile !

I'm Maurgane, a French student that'll be joining a Master's Degree in Visual Special Effects in mid-September.

I'm a shy, calm and smiley person. Deeply, I'm a bit crazy but I'm used to hide it with people I don't know. Hopefully, couchsurfing will help me to change that! I'm a tv series addict and I like to call myself a geek. You'll probably never see me without a tee-shirt referring to fictional universes and I'm nearly unstoppable when I start talking about tv series or fictional characters with someone who's interested ;-) I am kind of a house-proud person and I like to do silly (and not funny ) jokes with pun but I don't know if I'll be able to do so in English.

I like to find stories' ideas, to be creative, and to imagine or dream about improbable things. I usually sing in the shower and collect beautiful birds' feathers I find. I like to take a walk in the forest and I'm dying to see a fox someday. I absolutely love to take pictures of animals and I like to loose myself in the starry sky.

I take the environnemental issues very seriously and try to do my best to minimise my impact on our beautiful planet. I strongly believe that we can still change things and get a healthier and more nature respectful society. I absolutely love wild and impressive landscapes, without (or almost without) any human prints.

I like to have long talks that end with quite philosophical ideas or questions, sharing memories and experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The main reason why I joined Couchsurfing is that I want my trips to become life experiences. It doesn't satisfy me anymore to go somewhere and simply... look at things.

I did a tour of Southern Europe's countries (Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia - twice) and it was wonderful, a paradise, even. I was with my mother and my stepfather, we moved a lot, changing campings every two days or so. And all along the journey, I had a lot of questions, about people's culture or places... And no one to answer them. Maybe I could have asked in a restaurant or something but, I'm shy and it felt weird to do so. I talked with some locals, obviously, but it wasn't long exchanges.

When I came back, even if I saw a lot of amazing and beautiful places or animals... It felt like I hadn't learn enough about what it's like to live there. From my experience, as a "classic tourist", there is some sort of invisible distance between you, the places you go and the people you meet.

Now, instead of seeing the places I'm going to, I would like to feel them, to live them ! I'd like to be a part of them, with the help of awesome people who live there :-) I'd like to get the chance to discover things that only locals can know about, and enjoy their (maybe yours?) presence and have long talks with them.

Another reason why (an obvious one) I'm on Couchsurfing, is that I love English language really much and I'd like to practice it.

Then, it's also because I'd like to step out of my comfort zone, experience some new adventures, learn how to be more comfortable with people...

Finally, I'd like to help others to do all the same, by hosting them. That's the whole point of couchsurfing isn't it ? Sharing. Even if my apartment is very small ^^

Music, Movies, and Books

As it is my passion (and, I admit, my addiction), I'll start with my favourite TV series! Here is my top 10 : Doctor Who, Sherlock, Marvel's Daredevil, Jekyll, Supernatural, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Legion, Gotham, The OA, Dexter... (And, in bonus, Lucifer)

I tend to love 70s musics, but I don't really know why ;-)
My favourite band is probably Queen (you should hear me singing Bohemian Rhapsody). Almost everything I listen to comes from the TV series or movies I watched so, I listen to a lot of different genres, but I don't like rap and metal.

I'm having trouble defining what my favourite movies are, and I probably forgot a lot of them, but I'd say : Memento, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Nightmare before Christmas, Birdman, Interstellar (basically, I like Nolan's work very much), Dragons, Tomorrowland, and... I'll stop here! Generally, I love sci-fi, super-heroes, action and thriller movies, but I don't watch any war or horror movies.

This year, I read more comics than books (Daredevil, Iron Fist, Lucifer, Batman, Injustice...) but I 'm currently reading Doctor Sleep (Stephen King) and H.G. Wells' Time Machine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years back, I participated to a boat excursion in Brittany. It was on an old sailing ship and we got caught in a storm. It was a downpour, and the boat was so leaned that I was nearly standing up, while my feet were on the edge of the hull. There were huge waves and it was really foggy. The trip's duration doubled... And I had a wonderful time! For once, I wasn't scared (even I probably should have been), I was having so much fun. I remember being fascinated by the movements of the boat, the sensations, and the waves. It made me feel alive and it's a strong memory.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, first of all, I am a good listener. We could share opinions, advice, experiences, questions about anything and everything...

I could guide you through the world of TV series if you'd like, help you discover new ones. I can also help you for audiovisual things, maybe teach you a thing or two.

Or perhaps we could simply share friendship and a nice time :-)

Countries I’ve Visited
