About Me

Hi! My name is Mariel and I am from Argentina. I was born in Comodoro Rivadavia, in the south of the country. When I was a child, my parents and I moved to La Plata, the capital of Buenos Aires. The city is famous for its universities anf for hosting the biggest number of students from all parts of Argentina and South America. It also has a very particular design and a park or square every six streets. I particularly love how green the city is.

I studied English-Spanish translation but changed my major to teaching when I had the opportunity to teach several groups of kids from the ages of 7 to 12. I realized I had found my true calling.
Nowadays I teach English to kids at schools and adults at private institutions. Right now I'm in Poland as part of a teaching programme. I'm teaching university students mainly, both in individual and group lessons and I'm loving every minute of it.

I love dogs. I have four back at home and they're one of the main reasons why I never leave home for more than three months. In Argentina I'm part of a charity group which works with rescue dogs and tries to find them adoptive homes.

I'm a part of an Argentinian Murga, which is a type of street dance and artistic movement. This has taught me a lot about sharing, team work, travelling with minimum resources, tolerance, resiliance and so much more. I can talk about it for hours. My group's name is Descarrilados del compas - There are videos in You tube (: It's so much fun!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The part I love the most about travelling is meeting local people and getting to know the culture as much as possible. I've heard great stories from my friends who have been on Couchsurfing for a while and I'd love to take part in this exchange.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Argentinian rock, specially from the 70s and 80s. I am a fan of The Beatles as well.
My dad used to sing Pink Floyd songs as lullabies when I was a child, so this is also close to my heart.
But apart from that my taste is undefine. I think there's beauty in music regardless the style or origin.

I enjoy reading. My favourite authors are Rohal Dahl and Ray Bradbury

I'm always up for pop corn and movies :) Fantasy, comedies and Sci-Fy preferred.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been Scuba diving in the Red Sea <3

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my knowledge of English and Spanish and I also love learning new languages (or at least some words).
I can also teach about Murgas in Argentina and Uruguay. I can teach you how to sew sequins, as in the murga every person decorates their own clothes.

I can make very good mate (South American drink)
