About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the world, meet new people, learn new things

ABOUT ME

I lived most of my life in northern New York, then went out west for a job and never returned. I traveled for work all over the US for a while, and of all the places I traveled to I loved the small town of Laramie, Wyoming the most. Most people drive right past Laramie (it doesn’t look like much from I80) but there is a lot to explore here and nearby for those who stop here. I enjoy meeting other travelers that come this way and hearing about their adventures, especially those from other countries or other active CS hosts. I also enjoy traveling myself, although Covid and the adoption of two dogs has slowed down my international travels, so I enjoy the opportunity to meet people who are still traveling!

PHILOSOPHY

Wander, explore, evolve.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've stayed with a number of amazingly generous and kind people in my travels, and want to share that same kindness with others. Since we have a small house I and am most likely to host international travelers, people who are traveling with a purpose (like musicians, artists, people raising money for charity), and other active hosts.

Interests

My greatest passion is for nature, especially birds,as I am an avid birder. I spend a great deal of time hiking, backpacking, paddling, and camping. When travelling I spend most if my time exploring the outdoors but also like to experience the culture of different places through live music, food, art, local brews, and ethnic cuisines. I'm a bit of a beer enthusiast, even brewing my own beer, and am happy to introduce people to the breweries around here or share one of my homemade brews!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While conducting bird research in the Gulf of Mexico I saw many amazing things--sea turtles, large groups of birds and dolphins feeding together, a raft of 200 loons, schools of yellowfin tuna catching flying fish in mid-air, and a manta ray gliding peacefully along the surface of the sea. I am fortunate that my work brings me to such beautiful places.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to share my knowledge of birds and wildlife with hosts who are interetsed in those things.
