I am an Englishman abroad. I grew up in London, England, was educated in computer science at the University of Kent, and then spent most of my career and adult life in Cambridge. I work in the field of medical image processing.

In 2016, I emigrated and settled down on the stunning Greek island of Sifnos. I have lived here permanently, winter and summer, since 2020.

Travel-wise, I am more backpacker than five star hotels. My son and I backpacked around India for a month in January 2025. We both preferred sampling the street food, exploring out-of-the-way places, and meeting and sharing experiences with local people and other travellers rather than doing tick-box main tourist attractions.

I am politically left of centre, religiously atheist, agnostic if you push me hard enough into a philosophical debate. I adore theatre, shared dining, and I have an extraordinarily deep and abiding love of my small island of Sifnos, where I now live with my best friend, Ronnie (half Husky, half Springer Spaniel).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My 2026 New Year's resolution is to more fully commit to learning Greek. So I have an interest in hosting Greek-speaking travellers who can help me on that journey.

The people of Sifnos have been so kind in helping me settle and make a life here. Couch surfing feels like a way of being able to pay it forward and share my wonder at this Aegean gem with like-minded travellers.

Raised two of the most amazing children the world has ever seen. They are both amazingly talented, smart, and kind, inspiring people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about computing and software. This was my formal education and lifelong career.

I can share my wonder at the amazing place where I live. My delight and amazement at Sifnos is undiminished despite visiting for the first time in 2016.

I must learn conversational Greek, so any help with that will l always be appreciated.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer either a comfy sofa by the log burner in my living room or a comfy sofa in a separate lockable office room.

My house is in the port town of Kamares and a 5 minute walk from the dock where the ferries land.
