Love & Gratitude
ABOUT ME
I have a great sense of humor. Always keeping my friends and family laughing. Also adventurous, great curiosity about everything and deep interest in other cultures. One friend has described me as an "ontologist' - one who studies the nature of reality. That's because of my interests in consciousness pursuits. When I'm not working outdoors and enjoying nature, you will find me with a book in hand - exploring the inner realms of reality. Indiana Jones is one of my heroes, along with Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, the Dalai Lama and.... well that tells you a lot about me.
PHILOSOPHY
I have a very progressive/liberal view of life. I have a passion for justice, equality, brotherhood & freedom. My highest personal values are honesty and integrity. I have very little tolerance for bigotry whether it is based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality or sexual orientation. Though my passport says USA, I see myself as an Earthling citizen of the Universe.
I see all of life's experiences as 'curriculum' for personal and soul growth. Some of it is pleasant and some of it is not so pleasant. But I value all of it as instructive in that it helps me to learn, grow and expand my consciousness.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
According to ancient Chinese philosophy, the primary characteristic of youth is flexibility. This is apparent when you compare a three year old with an eighty three year old. The difference in physical flexibility is profound. But there is another level of flexibility that we have more control over - that is our mental flexibility. Travel in general and couch surfing specifically offers us that opportunity to step out of our own world and into the world of our hosts or guests and to see a new things through their eyes and experience and celebrate the beautiful diversity of our planet. This experience keeps us both flexible and youthful, regardless of our age. Couch surfing is awesome!
Interests
My prime interests are nature (I live in Shangri-La - www.mtnlightsanctuary.com), reading, travel and exploring the inner and outer realms of existence. I enjoy being with people and deep conversations but not much in to superficial chit-chat. I haven't had a television for 20 years but regularly enjoy netflix movies and music on my ipod.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Yes to comedies, romantic, adventure, historical, fantasy and some sci-fi. No to horror and war movies.
Music: Very eclectic: yes to classical, easy listening, R&B, jazz, hip hop, reggae, bamboo and native american flute, and some really strange music such a Egyptian coptic chanting, Bali gamalen, Polynesian chants & ancient Chinese music. Not into heavy metal or any other music that my brain interprets as assaulting or discordant.
Books: Fantasy novels on the light side and all books related to the exploration of consciousness and the nature of reality on the more serious side. Two of the most profound of the latter are "Radical Forgivness: by Colin Tipping and "Loving What Is" by Byron Katie.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Waking up every morning and seeing where I live always leaves me awestruck with a profound sense of Gratitude. Love, in all it's forms continually leaves me in a state of wonder. Actually, as I thought about this question I realized that I really live an awestruck life. I am very blessed.
