Teach, Learn, Share
I want to improve my language skills, mostly German and French.
If you read till this point and go to Prague, I hope you find this useful:
beergardens: the best is Hospůdka na Hradbách in my opinion- calm, but very popular place in old castle Vyšehrad, you can see landscape and the prices are non-turistic, second is Zahradní pivnice Letenské sady, it is in different place but also low cost, popular place in big park with landscape. You can go also to beergarden Riegrovy sady.
parks: I like "Grébovka" (officially Havlíčkovy sady), reconstructed few years ago. I have lived near this park so I know it quite good and I know something about history of this place if you are intersted in. There is a vineyard with nice vine-house, you can take there vine produced from this vineyard.
Or... you can go to park Stromovka, continue to Trojský zámek and visit Trojský zámek (castle with garden), zoo or botanic garden with vineyard.
Indeed you would like to visit castle of Prague, I prefer going there from station Újezd or Hellichova, then go to hill Petřín (you can use funicular and see the tower at the top), then continue direction Raoula Walenberga street, Strahovský klášter, Loretánské náměstí, Kapucínská street, Jelení příkop and you will be in the castle, very nice way with minumum turists (except way to Petřín). There are also many gardens, for example Valdštejnská zahrada (free entrance) when you go by Zámecké schody.
If you go to Josefov (old Jewish town), don´t go to cash desk, but visit the office (somewhere near Klausová synagoga) and ask there (or write them an e-mail) if they have tkts, there were tickets much more cheaper without queue! I don´t remember how this works, but if I remember well it was about 100 CZK instead 400 with comment included.
Other typical touristical places: Karlův most (Charles bridge), Venceslav Square with National Museum (under reconstrution now), Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) and Orloj, Vyšehrad castle, Národní divadlo (National theatre), Zlatá ulička (Golden Street) in Prague castle - during the day you must pay to go there, but after 20h (I am not sure about the exact time...) is free!
old Prague´s pubs: U Tygra (the most famous), U Vejvodů, U Medvídků,... - many tourists go to such typical pubs. If you want to go to other classic place outside turists, try for example U Bansethů. But there are many pubs in Prague with different styles, so always depends on taste. For example pubs called Pub are self-service, quite popular.
