About Me

CURRENT MISSION

getting dirt under my fingernails.

ABOUT ME

I am an art teacher and co-own a plant nursery with my family where we sell daylilies, hostas, succulents, irises, and perennials. Quirky, but grounded. Patrick works with people experiencing addiction.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We love meeting new poeple! We can host and we occasionally like to couchsurf when we travel as well. We own a small home on a rural residential road about 7 minutes drive from downtown Oberlin, OH. We are right across the road from Carlisle Reservation, which is a huge metro park with lots of great trails.

Music, Movies, and Books

Red Brocade
Naomi Shihab Nye, 1952
The Arabs used to say,
When a stranger appears at your door,
feed him for three days
before asking who he is,
where he’s come from,
where he’s headed.
That way, he’ll have strength
enough to answer.
Or, by then you’ll be
such good friends
you don’t care.

Let’s go back to that.
Rice? Pine nuts?
Here, take the red brocade pillow.
My child will serve water
to your horse.

No, I was not busy when you came!
I was not preparing to be busy.
That’s the armor everyone put on
to pretend they had a purpose
in the world.

I refuse to be claimed.
Your plate is waiting.
We will snip fresh mint
into your tea.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

saw a shooting star while riding a camel in the sahara desert. survived a storm while night fishing in Rwanda. Hiked the congo nile trail. Created gardens where there previously was little life. Engaged students to think about the world differently by creating things they had never dreamed of before.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We have a guest room with a queen bed. We also have two very comfortable couches in the living room that each sleep one person or can convert to sleep a couple together. The bathroom would be shared with us (there is only one bathroom). The house is small, but cozy and we have a nice cozy screened in porch and lovely huge backyard.

Come out for a weekend getaway from Cleveland or stay with us while visiting your student at Oberlin College, or stay with us if you are passing through Northeast ohio on a longer trip. We would love to meet you.
