About Me

Hello. My name is Mickey and I am an educational anthropology student from Denmark.

Entering 2019, I started to feel pretty bummed out from slaving way too many waking hours with school related work behind the screen of my computer in an increasing isolation from friends and folks out in the world.

Quite unhappy with the situation and the hopelessly flawed work/life balance, I made a promise to myself, to shift my attention more outwards, to novel experiences, friendships and creative work. Something that would be possible to have and enjoy while working to finish off my master’s degree by the end of the year. And to aid these new motivations of mine, I chose to rejoin Couchsurfing, which is the first reason for my presence here.

The second reason is, that I chose to celebrate the serendipity of rediscovering the platform , after several heavy brainstorming sessions for the subject of my master thesis, by fusing my interest in culture, technology and interpersonal exchange by "going research" on the network and launching an ethnographic study into Couchsurfing.

And that's where I am at now. Out to experience more of the world and meet a lot cool people in the process, while writing about what I'm learning from social scientific point of view.

Academic work aside, I like to swim, read, shoot video, do some plain old' hanging out, drink a few, play some games, do recreational sport, bounce at concerts, inhale cultural events, sprout microgreens, sweat in saunas, freeze in cold water, hike the wilderness or wander the lengths of a cityscape while immersing myself in heady conversations with cool people, because that is what I find to make life light up.

In relation to my own experience with Couchsurfing thus far, I am seriously underachieving, as I have yet to guest and only have one past hosting experience several years back. My hope is that this will not deter anyone from requesting to surf my home or welcome me into their space. And in the obvious lack of external credentials, relying on my word, that I am a fairly decent, although completely imperfect human being.

My home is located around 45 minutes from the capital of Copenhagen by train. Where I can offer you a place to sleep, opportunities to show you around the adjoining area, provide you with tips, bits of cultural knowledge and some general entertainment. My preference is to host on the weekends, as I am quite busy on the weekdays. And if I, by rare chance, do accept a weekday request, I will have modest amounts of time to interact.

Yup. That is my biographical sketch and my connection to the site. If you wanna visit or hang out, feel free to reach out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing to travel, host, connect, engage, learn, experience and grow with others.

And to collect valuable information about the network for my master thesis.
