Hi! I’m Miguel, originally from Colombia and currently living in Southern Illinois, USA. Over the last few years, life has taken me on an amazing journey. I’ve lived in the United States for more than three years, spent time in Malta, traveled across different parts of Europe, and met incredible people from many cultures along the way. I speak Spanish (native), English, and a little French. I work in education and social work, and I’m passionate about intercultural exchange, community building, gender equality, and learning from people’s life stories. I genuinely enjoy meaningful conversations, whether they’re about travel, culture, food, languages, social issues, or simply the small things that make us human. Friends would probably describe me as easygoing, respectful, curious, and reliable. I appreciate simple moments: sharing a meal, exploring a new city, hiking, listening to music, or having a good conversation over coffee. One of the things I value most is hospitality. When I first arrived in the United States, several people opened their homes and hearts to me. Their kindness made a huge difference in my life, and it taught me that some of the best parts of traveling are the human connections we make. That’s why I try to approach every encounter with gratitude, respect, and an open mind. Whether you’re visiting my area or I’m visiting yours, I hope we can share stories, learn from each other, and create the kind of memories that make the world feel a little smaller and a lot friendlier. Btw! I truly believe in humanity! We can do better! I know!

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I could book hotels. They usually have clean sheets, reliable Wi-Fi, and almost no interesting stories. I use Couchsurfing because I travel to meet people, not just places. The best memories from my travels have rarely been famous monuments. They have been conversations in kitchens, unexpected invitations, shared meals, cultural misunderstandings that turned into laughter, and friendships that crossed borders. When I lived in Malta, I met people who became lifelong friends. Here in the United States, some of the people who first welcomed me into their homes became family, not by blood, but by choice. Their kindness helped shape my journey and reminded me that home is sometimes a place, but often it's people. I believe the world becomes a better place every time a stranger becomes a friend. Couchsurfing is simply my favorite way of helping that happen.

One Amazing Thing I've Done
I successfully changed my life’s GPS. I was supposed to stay in one place, follow a predictable path, and play it safe. Instead, I moved countries, learned new languages, traveled across Europe, lived on a Mediterranean island, became a teacher, a social worker, and somehow ended up winning a democracy award along the way. My biggest achievement? Realizing that it’s never too late to rewrite your story. The stars didn’t change… but my direction definitely did.
