CURRENT MISSION
Meet cool people and continue to expand my knowledge of people and the world
ABOUT ME
I have wanderlust. I have been lucky to lead a pretty kick ass life so far. I played hockey growing up and I was lucky enough at a younger age (14 to 18) to travel to a lot of places around the globe and get a sniff that there was a whole world out there to learn about.
After playing college hockey, I became a fly fishing guide (Alaska, Chile, Argentina, Russia, Costa Rica, Belize, Western USA, etc) and that gave me the perfect opportunity to experience more of the world. London for New Years…no problem, jump a flight and go. You get the idea.
I love the state of Michigan and what it has to offer. Just like in ever region in the world there is profound beauty here. Amazing lakes, river, open spaces, cool towns and a rich history that helped shape the world as we know it. I proudly tell people I am from Detroit, although I live north of the city. There is something unique and interesting in the way people gauge you when you say you're from Detroit. It is a gritty place and I love it. Also, Windsor Ontario, Canada is just across the river so you can easily add a Canadian aspect to your trip from here. Toronto and Chicago are both just 4 hours away, so there is great cities within a few hours.
If you are a fan of music, Detroit is still one of the best places to see live shows. Any day of the week you can find some type of interesting gig to check out. I guess the best way for me to describe the music scene is that a band can be whatever/whoever they want to be and this leads to a lot of creativity coming form this area. All you have to do is search the web on the artists who have considered Detroit their home over the years and you will be floored.
I gave up the world traveling when I got married and spend the next chunk of years reconnecting with Michigan. The marriage didn't last, but my fondness for Michigan did. I spent almost 10 years with a great cabin on a river in northern Michigan as a vacation spot and used that as a hub to explore the "north country" that was childhood summer vaction spot of Ernest Hemmingway. Being in the automotive industry I sold my place to survive the brutal economy we are still suffering here. The economy is better, but we are still in a long battle back.
I am single, 43, fit, professional, no kids, a few dogs, fun and funny (93.5% of what I say to be funny is actually funny). I love to be outdoors, mt. bike, read, see live music, play hockey, read, have no convictions or restraining orders against me and would like to see what this site has to offer. The idea of meeting adventurous people who are quirky and open minded enough to come see my part or any part of the world seem really cool, appealing and ok in my book. I have a diverse social network of friends so finding cool and “Detroit” things to do wouldn’t be an issue.
I am brand new to this site and excited to see how it works out. I hope to hear from you, whoever you are!

PHILOSOPHY
Life is really short. Expeience as much as possible, treat others as you would like to be treated, learn as much as you can and don't be a sucker.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am new here. I am open to meeting surfers for a day, drinks, planning and maybe crashing at my place. I will travel using this site, but I will probably "host" at first to get the lay of the land before I venture out.
