About Me

I grew up in Perth, Australia, and have recently made it a goal to venture beyond my hometown and connect with strangers from every corner of this wonderful, crazy world! My friends describe me as being receptive and outgoing, and generally speaking, I'm an extrovert—but above all else, I've always loved to learn about people and to listen to their stories. I'm a big fan of deep/intellectual conversation, and my greatest passions in the world (apart from travelling, of course) are playing music, writing, and cinema.

I really enjoy documenting my experiences through music and art, but love nothing more than embarking on exciting and unpredictable adventures that allow me to connect with fascinating characters from all walks of life. Meeting people has always been my favourite part of travelling, and through couchsurfing, I hope to create long-lasting memories with people of all races, ages, sexual orientations, and genders!

I loathe routine, and have a deep appreciation for spontaneity. I always try to embrace and cherish every moment, and every day of my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To quote the brilliant Hunter S. Thompson, "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'Wow! What a Ride!'"

And that pretty much sums it up. I'm on couchsurfing because it has helped me to leave my comfort zone, learn about different cultures, meet a diverse range of people from all over the world, and live life to the fullest I also tend to recall the people I encounter on my travels far better than any sights or tourist attractions - and this platform has helped me to meet some of my closest friends.

Every guest/host has been special in their own way, and this community has enriched my life beyond words.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Some of my favourite artists are Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Duke Ellington, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Tom Waits, Marvin Gaye, John Coltrane, Muddy Waters, The White Stripes, Elton John, Nina Simone, Ennio Morricone and many, many more... My all time favourite album is Exile on Main St. I love Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk, Rock, Deep House... the list goes on.

Movies: During the COVID-19 lockdown, I watched the entire IMDb top 250. Some of my favourite films are Cinema Paradiso, Apocalypse Now, Raging Bull, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, A Separation, Network, The Shining, The Big Lebowski, Princess Mononoke, 12 Angry Men, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, High and Low, I could go on forever...

My favourite directors are Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Andrei Tarkovsky, Sidney Lumet, Sergio Leone, Billy Wilder, Federico Fellini, etc...

Books: My favourite novels are The Count of Monte Cristo, The Lord of the Rings, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I also really enjoy the writings of Bertrand Russell, Noam Chomsky, and Carl Sagan - and Craig Ferguson's autobiography was pretty great too. I'm also a big fan of the Beat Generation (Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, etc).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lost my passport, laptop, and $400 in cash just four days into my long adventure around North America. The following evening, I made acquaintance with some hippies on the street, had my drink spiked with LSD, and still somehow managed to find my way back home. Ahh San Francisco...

Apart from that, I've won a couple of talent shows performing with my guitar, and have written/recorded an album of original songs with my band. Having said that, I still think that connecting with people through couchsurfing and hitchhiking might top the list.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can teach you my ramen recipe.... Or how to play the guitar! Over the years, I've also developed a flair for recommending new music to people, and I can teach you some really interesting things about linguistics, modern movements in art and literature, and the modern history of counterculture and music.

Learn: There's always more to learn; obscure knowledge about your city, help with the local language, or some insight into your own interests is what intrigues me the most. I'm a very curious person ;)

Share: I like leaving a place with "emotional" souvenirs like new friendships, stories and experiences - and I hope to share some of my own with others too :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Food! I love to cook. I'm clean, respectful, and always very mindful of all house rules.

I'm also a pretty mean dishwasher, and of course, my hosts are always welcome to stay on my own couch too, wherever in the world that may be!
