About Me

I just finished a couple of years in East Africa and now I am enjoying adventures in South East Asia!! Thus far I have visited Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. I travel a bit differently than most "backpackers" ; I travel slowly- I like to take my time to get to know places and get to know people. I am also working along the way; I recently started teaching English online, so Saturdays and Sundays are my work days. Because of this I must structure my travels a bit differently, making sure that I have a quiet and well-lit space for teaching on these days and ensuring that I make my movements during the week. So far it has been do-able for me and works with my slow-paced style :)

My main interests are food, plants, traditional medicine, and beekeeping. I am passionate about health and anything that supports human health in a natural way. Occasionally I interview people who work in these fields and post stories about them on my website (www.MollyBHagan.com).

In Tanzania I was living and working in a small Maasai village named Ololosokwan. I was teaching a jewelry training for a group of Maasai women as well as working with a honey business. I worked with the honey business to improve their natural cosmetics made from beeswax. Together we made skin salves, soaps, lip balms, and candles. I also enjoyed learning about the traditional Maasai plant medicine ;)

Besides Tanzania my former travels include 6 months in Peru, learning through work-exchange programs ~ growing organic cacao & coffee, growing oyster mushrooms, and assisting local families. It was an incredible adventure and an amazing learning experience! It definitely infected me with the travel bug...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have only had positive experiences meeting other couch surfers in my travels. I appreciate non-monetary ways for people to trade, share, and learn from each other.

I sometimes use couchsurfing to find hosts in my travels (unfortunately I do not have a permanent residence to host people right now) and I also like to use the site to meet people since I am usually travelling independently.

Interests

I like to find nature wherever I am traveling. I also enjoy bicycling, sampling the local cuisine, cooking, and drinking espresso :)

Music, Movies, and Books

All different kinds of music- I like funky stuff you can dance to. And classic rock.
I'm honestly not a big movie watcher, but I do enjoy documentaries from time to time.
These days I mostly read non-fiction about plants & physiology, + language learning books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Qoyllority. You can ask me when you see me.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll make you tea or cook you healthy food! I love to make curries, herbed stir fries, and soups. But I am always up for new flavors & experiments! (Thailand update- maybe you can teach me, haha)

I can also teach you how to make skin salves or hand-bound books.

I am good with computers and able to create forms, brochures, and edit graphics. I also enjoy making websites. For longer stays, I am happy to help people with such projects in exchange for a pillow!
