About Me
Hello there!
My name is Monica, my nationality is Chinese but I was born and rised in Sweden (Yay for Swedish meatballs at IKEA!). Right now I'm a full-time master student at Lund's university studying molecular biology specialising in genetics and cancer biology. I used to work as a swimming instructor, so if you want to learn how to swim or improve your skill I'm always happy to help ;) From January to June 2016 I got the opportunity to study aboard in Glasgow, Scotland. It was also my very first time travelling alone, a bit scary - but I couldn't have been happier. The experience fired my curiosity for people and their background story,
I'm not much of a party animal, but I like drinking - still learning how to enjoy beer, so lemon beer is awesome for the time being :p
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've always traveled with my family, but now I prefer going on my own or with friend(s) and Couchsurfing is a great opportunity to cure loneliness and meet new friends all over the world. Not only that, by living with locals I can get a whole other view of the city I'm visiting.
Interests
I admit that I'm a bit of a nerdy person, as long as I remember I've always been interested in science, and studying molecular biology feels natural as I'm fascinated about how life began and how all the components can cooperate so beautifully and create life. When I was 12 I got my first Japanese comic book (manga) from my cousin and ever since then I've been hooked on manga and Japanese cartoon (anime) and it was also around that time I was introduced to video games, which I still play in my free time.
Aside from science, manga, anime and video games I enjoy things like baking, drinking tea, crafting, sewing and discuss deep questions.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't have any particular favorite music genre, anything is fine but I do like music that makes you dance! When I was younger I read a lot of fictions books, they have unfortunately been exchanged with course books and scientific papers these days, but East of Eden by John Steinbeck is the most intriguing book I've ever read, highly recommended!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The word "Amazing" is quite subjective... but one thing for sure is that I've never done anything amazingly crazy such as skydiving or bungee jumping. But exploring one of the volcanic veins in Iceland was pretty amazing, and I got the chance to be close to an unidentified bacteria growing down there! ;)
