About Me
CURRENT MISSION
playng house husband, though not married, continuing to develop a bit of stillness in the world's storm
ABOUT ME
I moved from my folk's place in the Silicon Valley when is was in my early twenties and bought a house on the other side of the country in a small coal mining town in Pennsylvania, where I have lived for the past 18 years (feeding off of the nearby university town for culture, work and friendships). Quiet a few people have come and gone at the house over time, and I have remained and tried to make a go of it.....until now. Now I am cutting myself loose and flying free.
(update: I flew for a spell, and have landed in Eugene, Oregon...and am happily co-habitating with a fine woman working on her PhD. Someone I have been friends with for many years, and now share more with).
I am honest, have a dry wit, can be serious though I love nonsense and wackiness. Tall, and thin...folks tell me at times that I think too much. I like playing games...board games (Scrabble, chess, go, etc...), cards and love learning new games (always have been crappy at video games however). I love watching films, and people watching on the street. I like to feel helpful in small ways. I am a traveling home-body. I am poor at small talk but love a good long conversation. I'm not fond of the telephone. I am intermittently shy and forward and outgoing.
Just another upright ape in strange times.
I don't eat anything with eyes except potatoes (read: vegetarian) and grrrrr I try and I try but I don't like melted cheese. I do eat all vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, and breads happily, as well much cheese and milk and yogurt and such.
PHILOSOPHY
Three constants: You, Me and Change.
generally: as Kurt Vonnegut suggested...."be kind."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed with two hosts on my way West across the US, and then with one host after heading South and East on my way back. I have traveled and hosted with a peace organization called Servas in Europe, and down under. I am comfortable with, and enjoy meeting people and making them or myself in basic ways "at home"....and have had some of my finest experiences visiting and staying with individuals and families...some who have become lasting friends.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love films...especially thoughtful ones, off-beat, unconventional one are great too. Don't go for horror, and pretty bored with shoot-em-ups. Foreign over domestic, but not snobbish....I'll watch anything (but only really like 20% or so really well).
Andrew Bird, Ani Difranco, Devo, Rufus Wainwright, Peter Blegvad, Robyn Hitchcock, Randy Newman, Suzzanne Vega, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, Cake, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Aimee Mann, Air, The Stranglers, The Zombies, the Art of Noise, Durutii Colum, Belle and Sebastian, Billy Bragg, Brian Eno, Cibo Mato, Chet Baker....really too long a list to go on...
I read so very very slowly....I like Vonnegut's work. Micheal Pollan's book The Omnivore's Dilemma was good, I enjoyed Bel Canto....
