One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I just finished my trip from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Segamat, and Singapore on a low budget as a solo backpacker.

I crossed the border to Thailand by train from Malaysia in the middle of the pandemic, when there were no buses running to Thailand. Therefore, I had to use a minivan and motorcycle with local villagers to reach the city.

While waiting for the next bus to Segamat, Malaysia, I had to sleep at a bus station in Johor Bahru. I was kicked out by the police and had to sleep outside with beggars. I ran to the nearby Indian army personnel at the station and asked for their help. They let me sit on their chairs while I waited for the next bus at 6 a.m. Haha.

I spent one month in Cambodia volunteering and struggled with the food, as almost all of it was non-halal. I had a similar experience in Sumba, where I volunteered for one month in a small village. Despite the challenges, all the experiences were truly beautiful; the people and the scenery were incredibly memorable.
