About Me
Hi there !
My name's Mylène, I am 25 and I've just come home after one year spent in Québec. I am a former student in education and languages and I usually spend a lot of time travelling. I would to meet other travellers and show them the amazing place I now live in which is called La Gacilly and hosts a splendid photo festival during the summer. My next project is to get together with people practising alternative teaching (Freinet) and permaculture in a goal to reach self-sufficiency, in a eco village for example.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to be able to share my small world to people to yet haven't visited it. To create new friendships by refusing any kind of commercial transaction which would make it all fake. Humans are meant to share, give and exchange. And that's what I love about Couchsurfing, that money is not involved, which makes it all so decomplexed and easier to handle!
Interests
As I said, travelling is one of the things I love but I'm also very interested in music (I've started playing the ukulele recently -- and I loooove it!), I also sing in a local band, I write articles for blogs now and then, and I'm always on the move for what to do next, as I can't stand being inactive or wasting my time! I translate texts for associations on the internet and give English courses. I get a lot from meditation, spiritual techniques, feng-shui, and tarot-reading to name but a few. I would like to go back to teaching but in an alternative way, according to Celestin Freinet's principles. I also want to discover permaculture in an eco place.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am a big fan of Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Angus & Julia Stone among others. I like folk, rock, pop, indie, electronica music.
As far as movies are concerned, I love Requiem for a Dream, L'école Buissonière, Cowspiracy, Home, What Dreams may come, and a thousand more.
I've greatly influenced by books such as l'Ame du Monde, the Alchemist, Plaidoyer pour le Bonheur, to name just a few.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I truly loved being part of the ecological movement in Tadoussac during my year in Québec. We had to face the government's will to implant pipelines and a harbour in Cacouna (the coastline facing Tadoussac) to transport all the petrol coming from Alberta to Europe. But they hadn't forethought that there could be leaks onto the St-Lawrence river, which would kill our beloved belugas, now about to be extinct. The coast would be forever damaged, for a few gallons of petrol and the interests of a minority. We thus organized a demonstration to show that the population opposed the measure. And we won as the Transcanada project is halted for the moment.
Teach, Learn, Share
Maybe if you are good at editing sounds, films and pictures, you could recommand a few opensource hardwares and techniques for me to learn how to be efficient in my productions! Also, I plan to set up a blog, so if you have good advice about it, why not share?
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can teach a little ukulele and singing, as well as French, English, Spanish and Italian, as well as some cooking techniques (I've started eating vegan as well and some desserts are oh so yummy!), I can show you around La Gacilly for a nice personalized tour ! We can talk about personal development for hours too :)
