About Me
I'm an environmental science educator and nature/science enthusiast who loves riding bicycles, going on hikes and walks, trying new types of vegetarian cuisine, and listening to punk music among tons of other things.
I have Couchsurfing to thank for some of my most epic travel adventures both national and international, short and long term, and for great times while sharing my town with travelers. Although I haven't traveled internationally in a number of years, it's something I always look forward to planning into my busy life.
From wild bus rides in the mountains of Laos to breathing clouds atop Machu Picchu, I am grateful to have seen a lot of our planet's beauty and am so inspired to protect it. When I'm not traveling, exploring the tidepools and forests of California's central coast keeps my passion and inspiration flowing.
I love new situations and meeting new people, seeing new places and trying to do new things. I'd be stoked to check out your favorite local brewery or nature spots. Even though I spend more time in the woods, I am awestruck by big cities and always enjoy the company and guidance of Couchsurfing hosts whenever I get to visit.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is such a great way to authentically experience places and cultures!
I have a lot of fun taking visitors around my town, including the touristic and of course the off-path attractions, and appreciate when I get to be shown new places by local folks when I'm traveling. Life's all about sharing what ya got!
Interests
I love finding beauty in all aspects of life, especially nature. I enjoy crafting and building things from and inspired by nature. I like to adventure, but I can also be down to sit and chat or draw for hours on end.
Thai red curry is one of my favorite things to eat, as are bagels! I listen to mostly loud punk music, like Youth Avoiders, for reference, but have been heard listening to mellow indie music, folk/bluegrass, and rap.
I tune into a variety of podcasts, Ologies is atop my list these days along with Science Friday and other NPR broadcasts. What are some of your favorites?
- arts
- dining
- cooking
- running
- music
- cycling
- hiking
- snorkeling
- skateboarding
- rock climbing
Music, Movies, and Books
I don't watch a ton of movies, but the genres would mostly be documentary and comedy.
Hardcore punk, folk/punk, blue grass, indie, and hip hop fill my ears when podcasts don't. Sprinkle a little jazz in there for good measure.
Rading books comes and goes in my life. Mostly sciencey articles, non-fiction, short stories, and biographical lit, witty and fun fiction (Tom Robbins, Carl Hiaasen, Bill Bryson...)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Snorkeling the Salmon River in search of spring run Chinook salmon.
Teach, Learn, Share
I like being outdoors and sharing what I know about nature or even just being with people as they experience noticing a new flower.
I like the idea of pen pals and have been writing on and off with friends near and far for decades, and am always in search of new people to write.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm always grateful for the opportunity to Couchsurf. Whether it's buying drinks on the town, helping cook a meal at home, cleaning dishes, or stopping at a farmers market to get snacks for a picnic, there are lots of ways I am happy to show my appreciation!
I always clean up after myself. I'm handy and happy to help try to fix things or help out in any way around the house. I love sharing music and stories. Who knows, I may host you someday!
