About Me

Being outside is better than being inside.
For a while I thought I'd join the French Foreign Legion.
I don't like to see anything suffer needlessly - whether it's a human being or a spider scuttling across the floor.
My ultimate aspiration is to become a hermit nomad living in Antarctica.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

How can I even start? Let me just say that if you're reading this and you haven't couchsurfed yet, do it! Almost every couchsurfer I've met - whether hosting, surfing, or meet ups - has been a person worth meeting. When/if I ever settle I'd love to give back and be a host myself.

Interests

Depending on where I am, who I'm with, and how I'm feeling, I can be up for almost anything. I especially like being outside though. And it might sound cliché, but I like exploring the less-trodden places. Going off the beaten path and all that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Current book: Thoughts in Solitude by Thomas Merton
Current music: "If I Told Him: A Completed Portrait of Picasso" written and recited by Gertrude Stein (it's not music exactly, but it's worth listening to nonetheless)
Current movie: Dancer in the Dark (with Bjork)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a solo backpacking excursion along the John Muir Trail for three weeks. Definitely one of the best things I've ever done. Every day was beautiful and at the end, on top of Mt. Whitney, I would have turned around and done it all backwards - if I had food left.

El Camino de Santiago with my brother and our international band of fellow primitivo victors.

And so much more...

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you how to make a Manzanita corncob pipe, take apart a chainsaw and give it a good cleaning, and dance some ballet.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom
