About Me

1) First and foremost I am a scientist. I freaking love science. I am indescribably grateful to be alive today, with access to the technology that makes our world great. We cure illnesses with simple shots from our doctor. We hold face-to-face conversations with people on opposite sides of the planet. And we circumnavigate the globe in giant metal birds. The world we live in today is amazing, and it keeps getting better. It is an honour to be able to use this technology, and contribute to it, ultimately making the world even better.

2) I am a professional mascot. You know the people who dress up in giant animal costumes to represent sports teams? That's me. My job is to hype up crowds and make their experience at sports games as live as possible. Although I cannot disclose the teams that I have worked for, I can give a few hints: I have been an eagle, a porcupine, a horse, and a dog. I have performed in front of crowds greater than 35,000 people. It's honestly such a surreal experience; I have so many stories that I can share.

3) I am a runner, hiker, and outdoor enthusiast. I was on my university's running team. Please, if you know of the best running trails in your area, share them with me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would really love to experience the life in Japan outside of cities. Cities are great, but a country and culture is built on the entire population, many of whom live in rural and suburban areas. I find that meeting people in rural areas provides a vital perspective to the foundation of a nation's culture. Plus, I really love interacting with children, schools, and farmers.

Also, I love hiking. I am hoping that my fellow couchsurfers know of some hidden hiking gems.

Lastly, I have been a die-hard science student for so long that I have kind of forgotten how to chill. I only know how to be on-the-go all the time. Please teach me how you spend time. Show me what it means to be human, again.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite book of all time is The Making of the Atomic Bomb. It is the definitive "history of physics" book of the 20th century and it provided me much solace during my master's. It turns out that Einstein and Bohr needed their friends' help, just like me. I tried making a podcast to spread the gospel of this book.

I am also a nerd for Star Wars, anime, and superhero movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived an attack by 6 mall Santas while mascotting at a football game. I escaped with only a sprained shoulder. They were very viscous, and possibly intoxicated, Santa Clauses.
