Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm not into normal tourism, I am much more interested in meeting different people, spending time with them and seeing their lives.
I hope to tell a little about my own culture while getting to know the beliefs, values and practices of other people and groups.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's been a while, but it still remains the best couchsurfing experience I've ever had on a trip.

I was hiking in the mountain desert of Jordan when I met Bedouins on my way. We began to talk a little about where I came from and where I will stay that night. So it turned out that my next overnight stay will be with an uncle of one of them. They were very surprised and asked how I knew him?
So I told them about couchsurfing and how it works. They were so excited and asked me if I could show them how to create such an account because they also want to host guests from all over the world.
"Sure," I said, "but we're in the middle of nowhere right now...".
"No problem," they said and sent one out to organize some donkeys. After a while he came back and we rode to the next internet café in the valley. Once there, I helped them to open their own accounts. They were overjoyed to be part of this community now and invited me to a delicious traditional meal as a thank-you.
