About Me

I'm 25 and have been happily married for a few years. I'm an accountant and my professional life is focused on money, so I try to make my personal life focused on experiences and relationships. I crammed 10 years of partying into 5 years when I was younger, so I've matured more than most people in their mid-20's and my idea of fun has matured as well. I still know how to have a good time and indulge in my preferred party favors, but I care far more about the people in the bar/party than the music playing, the drinks being served, or the status of the place. I'm in search of awesome people and experiences, not a badass selfie for instagram!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A large part of my marriage's success is a mutual understanding that we are still different people with independent desires. We take trips together, but we also take trips separately. When I take a trip separately, it's mostly for the adventure. Where's the adventure in staying in a hotel? I want to get the local experience of a place and meet a fellow couchsurfer who is as open to new experiences as I am.

Interests

Sports have to be at the top of my interests, both watching and playing. I'm an avid golfer and love playing new courses.

I have strong opinions and a thirst for knowledge, and as such, I enjoy challenging/controversial conversations. Some people avoid talking about politics, religion, money, or relationships, but those are some of the most important topics to me and I love to hear different viewpoints on them.

I love technology. Incredible progress is made daily on machines and products that will create the future, and I am educated on but a tiny sliver of them. I am fascinated by damn near all of them and could listen and learn from somebody educated in this sector for hours.

Music, Movies, and Books

To be honest, I'm a lazy music lover. I use music to set or enhance a mood. Streaming services have made this far too easy for me in that I can just pick a station and let it do its thing. For just chilling/working, I like different styles of jazz. I was really into EDM in college and still use it to get amped for a night out. The only genre you'll never hear me listen to is country, and I lived in Nashville for 3 years. Just not my thing.

My favorite movie is The Big Lebowski. My favorite TV show is Breaking Bad (original, I know). Characters draw me to a film/show much more than the plot.

I don't read books, yet I read for hours every day. Fiction doesn't hold my attention for the amount of time it takes to read an entire book, and it even has to be really good fiction for a TV show or film to keep my attention. I read articles from quite a few different periodicals and of course all sorts of online sources. I read to learn, so these articles give me a surface knowledge of a topic and if I'm compelled to explore further, the incredible knowledge base of the internet is at my fingertips.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to work in public accounting. Tax season is hell. 100 hour weeks and not a single day off between January and April 15th. One year my wife and I booked a flight to Las Vegas on April 16th, a return flight 9 days later, and that's it. The idea of having absolutely no plans was the most appealing concept in the world to me after the previous 4 months. We rented a jeep when we got to Vegas and went wherever we wanted every day. We explored Arizona, Utah, and Nevada and had the time of our lives hiking, exploring, and just being totally open to any opportunity that fell in our laps. We ended in Vegas with a day to spare and lived extravagantly for a night. The dichotomy of that night and the previous 8 days was both hilarious and refreshing and served as the perfect finale to one of the best experiences of my life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I played competitive baseball when I was younger and my team was invited to Japan to play in a tournament. While I was there, I was struck by the tradition that each Japanese team presented each American team with personalized gifts based on what they knew about each team (mostly location).

I've described myself and I hope whoever is reading this takes the time to read it all. I assure you that I will read all of the information provided by a potential host. I am certainly able to share an engaging conversation, but I also will share a small personalized gift for anybody who is gracious enough to share their couch with me. Gift giving is such an awesome thing to me because I like giving gifts and I've never met anybody who doesn't like receiving gifts!
