ABOUT ME

I recently graduated from UNBC, doing my MSc Community Health and currently working as an HIV researcher/Educator. I am a native of Jamaica and moved to Prince George 5years ago. I am very out going , jovial, foodie, talking and sharing stories, love to make make people smile that's my best gift, and learning about new cultures and meeting people.

PHILOSOPHY

Giving your best at all times, live life to fullest and always remember to respect and love everyone. I am a firm believer we don't always have to agree, our difference in ideologies and opinions that's what make us unique so embrace uniqueness and differences . I am passionate about social justice and trying to help marginalized and vulnerable individuals. My job ( AIDS service organization) and volunteering give me the opportunity to work with the homeless, persons with mental health and HIV positive individuals- I learn so much from these individuals and I love helping them in any shape or form.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCH SURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to this but another coach surfer introduce me to the idea and the whole concept of couch surfing. I decided to participate as it sound fun and I love to interact and meet people from different culture and just sharing my culture with others. The best decision I have made.... I so love the experience and looking forward to meeting and sharing with everyone- One Love, Irie.

Interests

nature, camping, concerts, museum, musicals game nights and traveling... basically anything different and fun. I love board games, a good game of charades, i am competitive so anything that's make me crazy :), laugh, think, fun and involves winning . I sometime do yoga still learning and starting to meditate more, and trying different spiritual practices for relaxation .

love trying different cuisine i am a foodie , or sometimes hanging at cafe and just listening to some awesome jazz or latin music ,. Love to cook authentic Jamaican dishes and other dishes and try different cuisine - this for sure I can share with hosts.

I am all about :) sharing stories, our life is all a story book with different journey.. I love listening and sharing stories . Finally anything to do with singing acting, just being crazy/ enjoy life and have fun all up for it.. So much more to say and share but I will save it for when we meet... :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Love every type of movies( The notebook, Hunger games, Avatar, Titanic, 12 years a slave) except horror, read a good mystery novel or even a nice romance book at times. A good/ inspiring autobiography is my favorite Barack Obama- Dreams from My Father, The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream, Nelson Mandela - Long Walk to Freedom,. Another author I love is James Baldwin Go Tell It on the Mountain, Another Country and the list goes on...

In terms of music -reggage , r/b, jazz/blues , pop, and classical but i will listen to anything inspiring, funky and just cool, music that free or empower my mind is top on my list. jazz and blues(( India Arie, Norah Jones, etta James Frank sintra...) , reggae( Bob Marley, dennis brown,) for party some good dance hall (Sean Paul), love anything Latin- slsa, bachata or and Merengue , the list goes on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

white water rafting on grade 4 rapids, hiking to jasper and banff, its absolutely beautiful. Winter time skiing ,mostly on my bump.. :) , Snowmobiling , camping and road trip all over BC and Alberta . Also, attending an indigenous pow- wow and sweat lodge. Most important of all, is meeting/sharing with people from different cultures all over the world and participating in traditional practices.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am hoping to share more about my Jamaican culture, cuisine, music, my craziness and smile.... I am willing to learn more about the different cultures, i would love to learn to cook different cuisines and most of all make life long friends.
