About Me

I'm a feast and famine type. I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll be traveling through SE Asia for a few months this winter of 2025. I'm excited to be leaving the US for a while. I haven't traveled since my 20's but I have a deep love for old-school couch surfing culture.

For Hosts: I love open communication. I appreciate being told what you like and do not like from guests. Please be comfortable asking for changes because I am happy to try and meet you where you are. I love to cook, am happy to clean, I love sharing/playing music and having conversations. I am generally good at fixing things... but I may not have the necessary tools. I am very social, but I sometimes need to "recharge" with alone time to think and meditate, and I appreciate having a little space to do this where possible.

For surfers:
Everyone is welcome at my place regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or political affiliation. People from all over the world who have settled in Buffalo are often guests in my home. If you, as a guest, are intolerant of individuals based on the above qualifiers, you will want to find another place to stay. If you are very sensitive, easily offended, close minded or someone who is compelled to strictly apply their world view to everyone they meet… this place isn’t for you. I’d rather spend time with folks who are interested in the practice of pluralism.

I prefer to host prepared and self-reliant travelers with at least a few references under their belt. But, still feel free to message me if you're new, I was once too. Especially if you’re new, a complete profile and a personal message go a long way. Couchsurfing is not just a free Airbnb and I will decline requests that seem to treat it that way. I'll help travelers where I can but I'm a busy guy.

References: Good or bad I try to do my best to give an honest accounting that will be useful information for other Couchsurfers. I appreciate when others do the same for me. References are less about talking to the individuals who surfed or hosted, but to the community at large. They’re about keeping users safe and well informed.

Multiple Guests: If you're traveling with a group I appreciate when everyone has a profile. This whole thing only succeeds if we participate together and the basic minimum of participation is completing a profile.

*** I do not use couch surfing to date. I accept guests and request stays only for a desire to connect and share. I hope that my space and/or my presence are never uncomfortable, and I encourage, open, honest communication on any topic or concern with a promise to listen, attempt to understand and find agreeable solutions to any issues.

Interests

In my middle-age I've grown closer to my hobbies. I love drums and creating/recording music. I love photography and trying to paint. I love to read and learn new skills. I genuinely love meeting people. I think we are mirrors into each other's experience. I believe I learn more about myself each time I connect with a new person.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music; playing and listening. I love to stay with people who also play music, or dance, or sing for the fun of it.

I read a lot of technical manuals now, but my history is in theater and I love authors like Tom Robbins and Haruki Murakami.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Knowledgefire Neighborhood Learning Laboratory

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm really terrible at language acquisition so I'm both grateful for help, but sorry for how poorly I advance. I've spent my life helping people learn how to do things they're interested in, and as a result of that I have some small experience in a HUGE variety of fields. It's great for conversations, but I'm always happy to take things deeper.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to repay with things that are uniquely helpful to hosts, but I know this isn't always easy to define. I have knack for repairs, but I'm happy to clean the bathroom too.
