About Me

I'm rehabilitating an old commercial building in Buffalo for the purpose of a Neighborhood Learning Laboratory. More info here: www.knowledgefire.org

I'm a feast and famine type. I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hosting again. I didn’t have proper housing for a long time and I’m really happy to have a place to share again. I love meeting the kinds of people that couchsurfing attracts. Some of my most beautiful memories are connected to couchsurfing. I’m sure I’ll do some traveling too.

***I strive to offer a safe and comfortable stay for all my guests. I do not use couch surfing to date nor do I accept guests or request to stay on any basis other than common interests and a desire to connect and share. I hope that my space and/or my presence are never uncomfortable, and I encourage, open, honest communication on any topic or concern with a promise to listen, attempt to understand and find agreeable solutions to any issues.
Everyone is welcome at my place regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or political affiliation. Mutual respect is what matters. People from all over the world who have settled in Buffalo are often guests in my home. If you, as a guest, are intolerant of individuals based on the above qualifiers, you will want to find another place to stay. If you are very sensitive, easily offended, close minded or someone who is compelled to strictly apply their world view to everyone they meet… this place isn’t for you. I’d rather spend time with folks who are interested in the practice of pluralism.***

Surfers: I prefer to host prepared and self-reliant travelers with at least a few references under their belt. But, still feel free to message me if you're new, I was once too. Especially if you’re new, put some time into your profile and send messages that make a real attempt at a human connection. Couchsurfing is not just a free Airbnb and I will decline requests that seem to treat it that way. I'll help travelers where I can but I'm a busy guy.

References: Good or bad I try to do my best to give an honest accounting that will be useful information for other Couchsurfers. I appreciate when others do the same for me. References are less about talking to the individuals who surfed or hosted, but to the community at large. They’re about keeping users safe and well informed.

Multiple Guests: If you're traveling with a group I appreciate when everyone has a profile. This whole thing only succeeds if we participate together and the basic minimum of participation is completing a profile.

Interests

My business is to teach people how to fix things (www.yourfixitneighbor.com). My passion is to create engaging learning environments (www.knowledgefire.org)

  • dining
  • potluck
  • reading
  • traveling
  • music
  • surfing

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music; playing and listening. I love to stay with people who also play music, or dance, or sing for the fun of it.

I read a lot of technical manuals now, but my history is in theater and I love authors like Tom Robbins and Haruki Murakami.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Knowledgefire Neighborhood Learning Laboratory

Teach, Learn, Share

My whole reason for being. Every Saturday in the summertime is when the Learning Laboratory is running and I'd love for world travelers to join us if it fits their plans. I'm happy to help guests, but I'm in a place in life where I am not likely to be reliably available for significant help. I've only ever had one guest that needed a LOT of hand-holding, but I can't do that now. It's fine to need it, I'm just not your guy right now.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to repay with things that are uniquely helpful to hosts. Either my skillsets as an educator/builder or just cleaning the bathroom/kitchen, making a meal, whatever. I love to cook, I love to build or help people understand their homes - especially Victorian era construction, I don't mind cleaning or helping in other ways. I seek the hosts input.
