ABOUT ME

I'm married and have 3 children. Two boys and one girl. The youngest is 35 yrs. old. After high school I was in the US Navy and spent most of my time as a parachute rigger. My experience as a rigger lead me to jumping. I made my first jump when I was 20 yrs. old and am still jumping at age 68 and have over 3600 jumps. After spending 20 years working in a papermill I went into business as a chimney sweep and selling wood stoves. I am retired now but still have my business and someone else now sweeps the chimneys. In 1990 I attended a Chimney Sweep conference in Budapest Hungary and it turned on my Travel Switch and I've been traveling ever since. I particularly like traveling in Eastern Europe, and Croatia, Czech and Poland are my favorite haunts. I also enjoy the coffee shops of Amsterdam. I love riding trains and going to places I've never been. I prefer to travel with someone but travel alone from time to time.
Forgot to mention that I'm also an airplane pilot and have a small bicycle shop.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let Live. Do whatever you like as long as it doesn't bother or hurt someone else. I really like helping people in anyway I can. My Grandama taught me years ago that what goes around comes around. I truly believe this as it seems that people are always willing to help me when I need it. I believe in God and Jesus Christ and look forward to going to Heaven.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I currently have a house that was my parents and they are gone now and no one lives there. I have had traveling friends stay there a number of times. It is a fully furnished house with all kitchen things. I live in a rather out of the way place in that it's a small town with little to do nearby but bass fish and bike ride. Our town is located on I-95 about 8 miles south of the Virginia border. We are almost Half way between Boston and Daytona Beach.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have stayed at the home of many friends and slept on everything from beds to couches and floors. I have a few friends in Europe whom I stay with when I'm in their town. Once while I was attending a conference in Prague I met a family through parachuting and they invited me into their home. Over the years we have become family and one of their kids and a friend spent a summer with me in NC. I have many chimney sweep friends and parachuting friends also in Europe.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all types of movies except horror movies. My favorites are action movies but I also like documenteries. I'll even go to a chick flick.
I've had a slight hearing problem all my life that keeps me from hearing most of the words so I just listen to the beat and rythem. My favorite books are of the American Indians but I also read about other things and I love National Geo.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sweept the chimneys at the Whitehouse. The view of Washington from the tops of the chimneys is awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

There are schools in Prague that teach you how to teach english to people that you don't speak their language. I would like to go to one and then go out in the world and teach in as many places as possible and learn their language and culture.
