About Me

Hi there! I'm a nature loving software engineer from Lithuania. I was born and raised in a small and beautiful resort town called Birštonas, but now I have my own place a bit outside of Kaunas. In this way, I can experience the culture and events in the city, while getting to enjoy the complete stillness of the suburbs during the night.

I love trying out and experiencing new things. One thing I realized is that the more you think about doing something new, the more doubts you have. So one of my principles is if something sounds interesting, or you haven't tried it - give it a shot! You never know what you might discover.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting and getting to know people from different countries & cultures is one of the most exciting things, which I've discovered pretty recently. I love realizing the fact that while there are so many different people, human connection and kindness is universal for everyone. And inviting someone to your home is a perfect example of that kindness.

Interests

As mentioned before, I have a thing for trying new things. From those that I try, some become a part of my life. At the moment that would be:

Space. I was amazed by all things space from as far in my childhood as I can remember. All the vastness of cosmos is so humbling, and any new discovery we make feels like dreaming to me. Sometimes I simply go outside when it's dark to watch the stars. That's such a simple thing, but it always gives me chills.

Lindy hop. This is a type of a very relaxed, improvisational, and fun dance. I strongly recommend to try this for anyone, especially those who have always wanted to dance something, but didn't like the strictness of learning choreographed dance. My favorite thing is that it's impossible to fail dancing lindy - the most pure joy is being had when some move doesn't go as planned, and you just see that wide smile on your partners face.

Investing. Since I'm a "logical" thinker, it was very easy for me to get interested in personal finances. I started investing in 2019 and liked the ideas of John Bogle, so I have my main portfolio of a single ETF that I DCA monthly. Would be cool to meet fellow FIRE enthusiasts!

Volunteering. It's interesting to try myself out in different kinds of ways to help others. So far I have helped the elderly during the pandemic, children in school, and organize a music festival.

Hiking and climbing. I love the calmness of nature... I've recently gotten a glimpse of what climbing a mountain feels like, and want to do more. Also been bouldering, and done rock climbing a few times. Now when I go hiking, I usually can't resist climbing a tree (:

Music, Movies, and Books

I love good music. My Spotify library has everything from classical to K-pop. I've been discovering the local Lithuanian music scene for the past few years and been amazed by it - would love to introduce you to it as well!

I only read a couple of books yearly, though my read-list is ever-growing. I hope to improve this in the future.

I try to watch a movie every week or so. Experimental cinema and non-mainstream stuff is also on my plate (movies like Rubber, Tusk, Swiss Army Man are what I like to recommend people, but usually they just roll their eyes).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went on a solo trip to Israel. This was my first solo flight, too, and I didn't plan anything. The whole trip was full of surprises (I accidentally met two other Lithuanians there, who were living just next to me), and the nature was completely different from what I've ever seen before.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess the things that I could teach you for sure would be these: lindy hop basics, how to play the Jew's harp, some Lithuanian words, and how to climb a tree! Or anything about Lithuanian culture. I'd love to learn about your local culture too, especially things that are completely opposite to ours.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Anything you want to know about Lithuanian culture, and anything about my passion for trying new things. Or I can help you create a website :D
