About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Bring excellence to urban education for all students!
ABOUT ME
I'm an educator, musician and traveler. I taught in a Costa Rican language institute, a drop-out prevention center and Catholic mission before landing my current gig teaching in Chicago.
PHILOSOPHY
"You can plan a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather."
Andre 3000 said it best. You can, and should, try to create dope things, but there's a whole lot of external shit that you can't control. So it goes.
Also, I like to dance, drink, and have fun, cause I want to do some laughing too. Can't be serious all the time.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Using CouchSurfing to gain authentic, person-centered experiences around the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
When I moved to Costa Rica, I used CouchSurfing for the first time. It was a resounding success. I ended up moving in with the guys who hosted me and spent a few months with them. We continued to host lots of gringos while I lived there.
After a year of living in Heredia, it felt good to share what I had learned about the city with other travelers.
Interests
I play piano and, to a lesser extent, guitar. Music is my form of self-expression but all art compels me.
Sociology is another field that I find endlessly fascinating. I mean, what is travel but a sociology laboratory?
As an English educator, language acquisition and utilization is a big focus professionally.

Music, Movies, and Books
Some musicians that are close to my heart include:
David Bowie, Frédéric Chopin, Animal Collective, The Shangri-Las, LCD Soundsystem, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom and Patsy Cline, EMA, Grimes, Kanye
I've been watching a lot of Spanish language films to brush up on my skills, so if you know any good ones, I'd love a recommendation!
Books are everything. Again, always open to recommendations.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Rio Celeste = one of the most magical places in Costa Rica and mayhaps Planet Earth
Teach, Learn, Share
Again, I am a certified English teacher, so I am more than happy to help anyone I encounter with language learning. I follow spoken-word & slam poetry closely, so I'm always excited to share some of my favorite artists. Also, I cook ;-)
