About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Survival. Then a good nap.

ABOUT ME

I have had a very non-linear life. I started out wanting to be an astronomer, later switched into broadcasting, then law (but really communications policy). The I was Administrative Director of an environmental center--- The Occidental Arts and Ecology Center-- for over 16 years. At the same time, I started a small community radio station in Occidental--- KOWS- FM. Now I have a bunch of part-time jobs: I do some arbitration, I am a "Puppy Truck Driver" for Guide Dogs for the Blind--- I drive puppies out to foster homes to be raised all over the western US, I help distribute the Sonoma County Gazette. a monthly paper, etc. I ive in the redwoods with my animals. Cannot imagine living in a city again. Animal lover, nature lover, deeply cynical and sarcastic otherwise.

My photo is a few years old, but I like it. Still me, just a little saggier.

PHILOSOPHY

I eat when I'm hungry. I also eat when I'm not hungry.
I sleep when I'm tired. I also nap just for the hell of it.
I wash dishes when they're dirty. Well, sometimes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Plenty of informal couchsurfing, both as a host and a guest, in the past. I can sleep just about anywhere. I think the Couchsurfing website is a brilliant idea. I have been a guest twice (in Madrid and Guadaljara) and it made all the difference-- my hosts were wonderful and I had a great experience of those cities. I have hosted about 4 or 5 people and it has always been great fun.

UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT HOST RIGHT NOW as I am having a problem with a difficult tenant on my property and I do not want to expose anyone to his hostility. Hopefully that will be over sometime later this year and I can, once again, meet all kinds of great people from all over the world.

Interests

Science. Literature. Art. Philosophy. Politics.
Animals. Environment. Travel. Cultures.
I practice Aikido and welcome other Aikidoists.
My only creative ability and outlet is singing--- I am in a small local choir and sing ridiculous things at odd moments. Love hiking and the outdoors in general, would probably travel half the year if I had the time and money.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two random human beings and total strangers put themselves at risk to help me out of an extremely dangerous situation recently. Now that's amazing.
