About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Whilst travelling, I found CouchSurfing invaluable for meeting people and finding places to stay in new towns. There's no better way to know a place than with the locals. I always said that, when I could, I'd like to return the favours, and what better way of meeting new people than in my own home.

Interests

Martial arts, making music, dancing and singing, reading and writing, teaching, playing games, roleplay and improv, cooking and eating, exploring the unseen, enjoying life and other people.

Music, Movies, and Books

From Hip-Hop, through Classical, to Drum 'n' Bass, via Jazz, lined with Metal, laced with World.

Beautiful, well-crafted and scripted labours of love. If they make me laugh, so much the better.

Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Self-Help, Spiritual, Graphic Novels. And my own books and stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ask me. There are many stories to choose from, I'd rather tell you one related to something you're interested in.

Teach, Learn, Share

Taking part in sado/chanoyu, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, at a couple's house. Every action, every sound, each colour and scent and image, has symbolic meaning. All is to be appreciated in its fullness. A simple act is transformed within ceremony into a mystical and magical experience, limited only by the confines of your own mind. An experience beyond words, capturable only in memory and the moment, a living demonstration of wabisabi, the transient nature of all things. Connections that run deeper than language, shared sentiments that cannot be spoken, friendships moulded and respect granted in ways no conversation could hope to achieve. Zen in motion. Any perceived imperfection is perfect, a part of the whole, a reminder of the futility of judgment. There is a place for everything. Each detail is significant, worthy of attention. Laughter is shared and lives are bonded, memories created to be treasured forever. Cute little sweet cakes and raw chicken with strawberries.
