One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While it's probably not the most public of events, I saw the personal transformation of a great mentor of mine as he struggled with the internal war called cancer. What was so incredible about it was that John never gave up or gave in, in that he always knew it was not his choice whether he would win, only that it was his choice to fight, and to keep fighting until the end. His battle was with keeping his emotions inside, and it was the most painful thing for him to do, but as he went through it I saw him open up more and more as each day progressed. Doctors test came through, no trace found. It was a relief when he found he finally beat it, but what was the most interesting thing was that he wasn't as relieved that the test passed as that he knew he had won the internal victory over hiding his emotions. John learned to love, cry, get mad, and laugh like he had never done before, and to this day lives an exhilarating and fulfilling life like I have seen few live on this earth.
