About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm a quiet person, not very demonstrative, but loyal and dependable. Oddly enough, I enjoy public performance (I am a musician, and I've dabbled in a bit of acting with a local drama group.) I get on well with animals of all kinds, and don't object to sharing my bed with cats and dogs. I am good with words, but a bit slow with computers. I can be very patient, and also very stubborn. I have strong views on certain subjects, but I try to keep the discussion civil. When it comes to travel, I don't mind "roughing it".
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My sister signed up for Couchsurfing first, and got me interested. It seems like a nice way to travel, and certainly a good way to meet people.
Interests
I am a musician, (guitar, voice, Native American flute, conga drum), and I do some creative writing (songs, poems, stories). I am interested in animals, both wild and tame, and in the natural world in general-in fact, I am something of an environmental activist. I enjoy hiking, exploring, and swimming, and I do a bit of gardening, as well. I also enjoy curling up with a good book. I do yoga, and I have a keen interest in alternative forms of healing. I am also a keen and interested observer of the weather. I crochet a little bit, as well, and I have a practical interest in Mercedes diesel cars.

Music, Movies, and Books
For playing and listening, my musical interests tend to fall into that large category known as "folk"-including traditional ballads, contemporary singer-songwriters, (60s to present), Celtic harp and fiddle tunes, and much more. I dabble in classical music to a certain extent, as well-good music is good music, whatever label you put on it. A few of my favorites: Martin Simpson, John McCutcheon, Golden Bough, Donovan, Pentangle, Simon and Garfunkle, Peter , Paul and Mary. I'm rather picky about movies, and the ones I like best tend to be sweet, heartwarming, uplifting, and reasonably clean-with, perhaps, just a bit of an edge. (It helps if they've got good music, as well.) Examples: Shrek, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Brother Sun, Sister Moon. I can enjoy a wide range of reading material, including, but not limited to, spiritual and metaphysical books, nature writing, and well-crafted fantasy. I have a particular fondness for high-quality children's literature. A small sampling: Water, Wind, Earth and Fire by Christine Valters Paintner, A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold, The Lost Grizzlies by Rick Bass, Watership Down by Richard Adams, The Sword In The Stone by T.H. White, the Earthsea series by Ursula K. LeGuin, the poetry of Rumi, Gary Snyder, Rabindrinath Tagore, and Brian Doyle.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most wondrous experiences of my life has been my father's amazing recovery from a stroke. (It's a long story.) I have also seen baby sea turtles hatch on an Australian beach, and composed a piece of music on the bank of the Sacramento River.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a Reiki master, able to give treatments and pass attunements. I can give guitar lessons, and can also give you a concert in your home, if you so choose. I am happy to share herbs from my garden, and I would love to improve my automobile repair skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Reiki, music, stories, poems, home-grown herbs.
