Overview
About Me
I've been living in Tromsø (Norway) since september 2020, thanks to a scholarship I had received for a research to my master thesis on Norwegian dialects. I come originally from Hungary, I was living and studying in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in 8 years, except a gap year between my bachelor and masters when I enjoyed living in my hometown (Sopron) which is the most beautiful town for me (absolutely recommended to visit if you are in Hungary or near the Austrian border). I finished my masters in Norwegian linguistics and literature in January 2021, and since then I've been working in Tromsø as a personal assistent of a man with disability (if you have seen the movie "The Intouchables" - that's my job).
My friends say I have a good sense of humor, and I hope they don't only lie all the time... There are very few people who have seen me not smiling all the time. I really don't see a reason to be in low spirit most of the time.
I think I'm an easy-going and fun company who is open for much crazy stuff (e.g. dumpster diving to name one), but also for deep, more philosophical and serious conversations. Despite that I've finished my studies, I'm still searching my place in the world and in this life, and I often feel I get closer and closer to the answer when I travel and meet new people, both with similar and different mind as me. That's why I really love Couchsurfing and that's why I have worked as a wwoofer several times (if you don't know what it is, check it out: https://wwoof.net/).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I really love the idea of Couchsurfing. Before my first experience, I could not understand how unknown people can give me the key of their flat, why they don't think I'll do something bad etc. But after that, I understood that reliance still exists among people, and it's great that Couchsurfing gives a platform to experience the trust.
I'd also really love to host people, but as long as I don't have my own flat, I can't, unfortunately.
Interests
I'm interested in almost everything - and it sometimes makes my life really hard. I want to study many foreign languages, I want to study clarinet and organ, I want to have knowledges in sciences - all this at the same time.
Anyway, it's hard to find a topic that does not make me interested.
I love cooking and baking, especially for many people. I just love watching them enjoying the food I've made. :-D
I also love hiking, and since I started to study Scandinavian languages and about Scandinavian culture, I appreciate nature more and more. I'm really into winter sports (cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, and ice-skating), next point on my wish list is to learn how to make ski touring.
Regarding my studies, I'm very interested in dialects (mainly Norwegian and Swiss-German), so if you teach me something on your own dialect (all the same what your mother tongue is), I'll be both amazed, enthusiastic and thankful. :-)

Music, Movies, and Books
Classical music is my passion (I went to a music conservatory where I studied clarinet and organ), so I love almost everything till the 20th century. My favorite composers are Bach (of course, because I play the organ), Vivaldi, Mendelssohn and Verdi, and I also like some pieces of Charles Marie Widor. But I think the number one is Carl Maria von Weber because of his clarinet concertos.
If it comes to pop music: I've never heard better music than ABBA and Queen.
The movie and musical "The Sound of Music" is really motivating for me, and I often feel that I'd like to use my musical skills and studies on a similar way Maria did it in the film (and in the real life, actually).
I love "Star Wars", except the new episodes (VII-IX).
Oh, and I think the world would be a much worse and more boring place without "Friends".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- I performed street music in Vienna two summers with a friend of mine. A woman offered us to free tickets for a concert in the Gold Hall of Musikverein Wien that evening, but we had no elegant clothes with us and that's why we couldn't accept them.
- I hitchhiked from Copenhagen to my home town in Hungary with a friend. We spent the night before the last one in Liechtenstein, and we slept on a bench right at the Swiss boarder, next to the Rhine.
- I worked on a farm on a Norwegian island (of 50 inhabitants) last winter, and I joined the local brass band. (It doesn't really sound amazing, but you should have been there to understand how crazy it was.)
- I worked as a postman in the mountains in Austria last summer.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: classical music (both theory and practice), languages, Scandinavian literature, cooking Hungarian dishes, baking
Learn: local dialect, tricks for a more sustainable life, orientating and surviving in the nature, cooking local dishes, ski touring and cross country skiing (I learnt the last one with the help of YouTube, so I'd really appreciate some professional teaching :-D). I love practicing the foreign languages I speak, so I like to travel to countries where I can talk to people in their own language, and not in English (partly because my English is not the best as you might have noticed...).
Share: I'm always up for cooking a good Hungarian dinner or/and bake a delicious Hungarian cake for my host.
What I Can Share with Hosts
... is my imagination about the world. I try to find the good points in everybody because I know there must be good points in everybody. But if you prefer being together without having long and deep conversations, then I can just share some funny moments with you, hopefully.
Besides, I can share my experiences how classical music can play an important role in one's life - even if that one is a youngster of the 21st century.
And if I can use your kitchen, you'll have the opportunity to try Hungarian food. I've also cooked for a Norwegian pop star (Ida Maria), and she loved my food, so I hope you'll, too. :-)
