ABOUT ME

I'm a laid-back guy who enjoys keeping up on national and world news via National Public Radio (no TV at my place), unless I'm out hiking the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail for weeks at a time (which is my main hobby). I work and travel (usually more travel than work!)

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Play fair. Take care of the earth; it's the only home we've got.

I'm happy to help out with some chores or a project when I arrive for some housesitting.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had a great time meeting people and couch surfing in Scotland, France, and the USA while I've been traveling. I've met great people while hiking the Appalachian Trail and have formed great bonds with them.

Interests

I'm into hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, jazz music, recycling, bicycling, and experiencing the small towns of the USA and Europe. I've got an extensive library of John Muir biographies and nature field guides, and a little bit of philosophy thrown in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've facilitated low ropes and high ropes challenge courses. I've led a group of national leaders developing an education program to teach Leave No Trace camping ethics and practices on the Appalachian Trail.

I like taking others hiking, skiing, or rock climbing. I like going out and listening to music or seeing a play.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Gifts of stories, listening (being "present"), food money, doing the dishes. Giving you tips on great hiking spots in the United States and Europe.

I've lived in Massachusetts, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, California, Washington, and Alaska. I've hiked parts of the Chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle (the Way of Saint James, the Camino de Santiago) in France.
