About Me

Hi everyone! I go by Ray, Rayster, or simple Raymond if you like. I'm an aspiring author with a serious case of wanderlust. A few years ago, a kind stranger in Singapore wished me a happy birthday, sparking something inside me. I realized life is too short to stay in one place!

I grew up with a sheltered life, but once I found my independence in Metro Manila, my world opened up. Traveling taught me I have stories to tell, and that the world is full of inspiration. I'm naturally introverted but love connecting with people from all walks of life. Their stories always find their way into my writing.

My motto is "Believe in Yourself"—it's gotten me through many adventures! I'm fascinated by technology, always jotting notes in my journal, and dream of sharing my stories with the world.

Staying centered is important to me. I've been practicing meditation since 2013 and love trying out different yoga styles. Always down to learn new mindfulness techniques or discover a peaceful spot together!

Let's meet up, swap stories, and explore! Maybe we can even inspire each other's writing.

Post-COVID: Can't wait to get back on the road after being stuck for 3 years! Hoping Couchsurfing becomes a vibrant community of travelers and writers once again.

If you think we might vibe, send me a message! Let's swap stories and maybe plan an adventure. 🗺️

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I discovered Couchsurfing in 2019, and I'm hooked on the idea of adventures filled with new experiences and genuine connections. I'm not able to host just yet, but I'm always eager for meet-ups, exploring together, and sharing stories with like-minded travelers. My first Couchsurfing experience in 2019 was incredible, and I want to continue meeting amazing people from all over the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

My playlist is a mix of Avril Lavigne's rebellious spirit, soulful country folk, and the occasional epic movie soundtrack.
Got a hidden gem recommendation? Always looking for authentic artists and tunes that spark adventure.
Movies:

I adore the magic of Miyazaki, the emotional depth of Shinkai, and the creative genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda! But I'm also a sucker for thought-provoking foreign films, and moving documentaries.
Down for a cozy arthouse film night or a cheesy action movie marathon...depends on the mood!
Books:

'The Alchemist' changed my life! Now I seek out stories that transport me, whether it's high fantasy, Jungian psychology (like James Hollis's Under Saturn's Shadow), or a twisty mystery.

Self-improvement junkie with a soft spot for magical worlds and Sherlock Holmes-level deductions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Explored Japan independently in 2016 – a transformative experience that sparked my love of travel.
Walked across Hiraodai solo, a remote region in Japan, finding peace and clarity amidst unexpected challenges.
Overcame a major personal challenge and emerged stronger, proving the power of resilience.
Firewalked on burning coals, a testament to the inner strength I never knew I possessed.
Vipassana for 10 days in the Philippines! (October 2023)
...and always seeking experiences that push my limits and deepen my understanding of myself!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about Filipino food, share my travel experiences, and offer insights into life as a young writer.

I'm always excited to learn about different cultures, try new foods, and explore hidden travel spots. Tell me about your passions, and maybe we can even learn a new skill together!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My friendly smile, positive energy, and a whole lot of stories to tell!
As a first-time Couchsurfer, I'm eager to experience new things and learn from my hosts.
I understand the value of connection and will dedicate time to getting to know you if our schedules allow it.

Inspired by my own positive experiences with locals, I'm excited to pay it forward by hosting others in the future.
