About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn, Connect, Play, Express, Laugh and Be.

ABOUT ME

Faye: I've spent the last few years waking up from an academic 'live to work' stupor where I had been doing great things in London, UK with Community Development and Public Health. But now you'll find me now dancing within a far more balanced and harmonious existence with my husband Jacob, here in Kentucky, USA. I'm 34, I love live music, learning about bits and stuff and getting dirty fingers in the garden, photography and enjoying the flow of life. Permaculture is at the heart of my life, in many subtle and some more obvious ways. I really enjoy outdoor stuff like cycling, horse-riding, walking and generally taking in life through as many senses as possible. I really enjoy people, especially those with a spark in their eyes and a lust for life. Hence building a life around feeding people good food and bringing us back to our nature through interactions with horses, soil and music :-)

Jacob: I'm currently working full time to create a homestead on my farm. It's all quite new and I have a million projects on the go like growing veg, looking after my animals, building an 'Earthship' home (yes a house made from all recycled materials) and the rest of the time you'll find me playing music or on the porch watching the wind. I'm excited to meet other couch surfers to share inspiration, stories and to see the world through the eyes of locals.

PHILOSOPHY

We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with an impure mind
And trouble will follow you.
As the wheel follows the ox that draws the cart.

We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.
Speak or act with a pure mind.
And happiness will follow you.
As your shadow, unshakeable.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Faye: We've had the privilege of staying with some wonderful people around America. Can't beat dressing up as a Giraffe with a your couch-surfing Zebra host for Halloween! Each surfer has been uniquely wonderful and I am so grateful of the generosity we've encountered from them. There is so much to learn from this wonderful community!

We have a couch in Caneyville, Kentucky. It's about as rural as you can get, but we'd welcome anyone with stories & a desire to join us on the porch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Faye: I've met with folks in London to offer them some local insight and chats. Now I am living in Kentucky and pretty much am the tourist again. However, with Jacob's local knowledge, we'd like to continue a long this vein and maybe use the odd couch along our way.

Interests

Faye: I have so many interests that I spend most of my time flitting around, jack of all trades, master of none. So, when I am being strict with myself I'm interested in music - the violin, guitar and singing, creative and portrait photography (though I miss using film!), I really enjoy people and sharing my interests and thoughts around life Philosophy and psychology. I love animals - always up for a snuggle with a pet and I'm also always looking to get the best out of a situation - hence my academic studies in Community Development and well-being.

Jacob: I'm working toward a sustainable lifestyle, which means putting into action everything I learned from being in New Mexico, Taos last year. After an internship with Earthships and volunteering at Schumacher College in England, I am now back at my family farm building, planting trees and trying to ensure that I step lightly with the earth. There is so much to learn and I am loving it.

I love connecting with people through music. I play the mandolin, guitar and drums and can never turn down an invitation to jam.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tom Robbins and Anchor Man just about rock our worlds.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Faye: Watching the thousands upon thousands of bats fly out of the Mulu cave in Malaysian Borneo.... breath taking! Also, teaching English to school kids in Romania and more recently visiting the house of Lords to celebrate our award winning public health project in London and teaching well-being to inmates in Californian jails... all such privileges! Breathing in the Playa and living the magic and synchronicity of community life at Schumacher College.

Jacob: Seeing the vast expansion that is the West of America, living out of a truck. Simple Bliss

Teach, Learn, Share

Faye: Three Principles Psychology - realizing that we create our moment to moment experience of life through our thoughts. We are in the driving seat. How exciting is that... ask me, I'll tell you all!

Jacob: I like to spread the word about Earthships. Using recycled materials (tyres and bottles) to build a living system, self sustaining home that's off grid. Perhaps you'd like to come and give me a hand?!
