About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Avid long distance hiker pursuing the Golden Mean.

ABOUT ME

Eclectic, musical, artistic, philosophical, wry, conversationalist, athletic, adventurous, outdoorsman, do-it-yourselfer, civic-minded, writer, cook, friend to children and animals.

PHILOSOPHY

"Live simply that others may simply live. Waste not want not. Use it up, wear it out, make do, do without. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Small is beautiful. Less is more. Variety is the spice of life."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Incessant volunteer. Connected and involved in the local community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Unofficial couchsurfer for a generation, but never before through this site. Also have hosted numerous guests in my little beautiful corner of the world.

Interests

I've been all over the map in terms of occupation, domestic living arrangements, hobbies, civic engagement. Have always loved to travel, but until now other obligations and interests have come first.

Music, Movies, and Books

Broad-ranging tastes in music: jazz, world, old-timey, bluegrass, more. I've played in an African drum group and in Celtic jams. Regular subscriber to "The Atlantic Monthly" and "Harper's." Too active to be a truly voracious reader, but do have my moments.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hiked over 5,000 miles throughout the US and Canada, including a "thru-hike" of the Appalachian Trail in 2000, and an 800 mile solo trek through the Canadian Rockies in 2008.
