About Me

Hi there! I am Victor from Chile, and I live in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. I did my diploma in forestry engineering in Chile, and my master's in ecosystem services in Dresden, Germany. Now I live in Freiburg, working in environmental research (forests, biodiversity, and climate change) and doing my PhD in the University of Freiburg. I have also lived in New Zealand and Sweden (work and travel), which were such interesting and enriching experiences, allowing me to visit many places: the different islands of New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and Lao, and several countries in Europe. Thus, I could make heaps of friends and acquaintances from all around the world.

It is my strong interest to get to know different people, and countries' different natural ecosystems, cultures, and life style. Also share conversations, jokes and cooking nice recipes with the people I meet.

I love to be in nature, use my body, read books, dance to different rhythms, cook, and watch interesting films and documentaries. I am always listening to different types of music. Also, I enjoy meeting new people and creating good memories, and hopefully friendships.

Language-wise, I speak native Spanish, fluent English, advanced Brazilian Portuguese, and I'm working on my German (B2 level at the moment).

I am always up to meet up, or host if possible. So just drop me a line. I look very much forward to meeting you! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is always good for the soul! I like rock, punk, indie, some heavy metal, mellow melodies, latinamerican folkloric music, rap, electro, jazz, classical music and some pop too. I am quite diverse regarding music styles!

I love books and there are so many of them, but some of my favourites are: Le Rouge et Le Noir, War and Peace, Les Misérables, The Karamazov Brothers, Crime and Punishment, The Savage Detectives, 2666, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Hopscotch, On Heroes and Tombs, Son of a Thief, The Stranger, The Plague, In Search of Lost Time, The Catcher in the Rye, The Vortex, 1984, Asimov's Foundation series, Asimov's Complete Stories, Tokyo Blues, A Song of Ice and Fire series, Homo Faber, Our Share of the Night, among many others!

Favourite quotes:

If I must live let it be without rudder and in delirium. - Mario Santiago Papasquiaro.

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. - Henry David Thoreau

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Why not a couple? I did the spectacular Torres del paine circuit in Patagonia, I visited the Galápagos Islands (where I swam with sharks), I've visited the amazing Iguazú waterfalls, camped on my own in the Atacama Desert (the driest in the world) and went all the way up to Machu Picchu in Perú. In New Zealand I did the Tongariro crossing and the Stewart Island trek. I got my open water diver license in Thailand and dove in Koh Tao and the Phi Phi Islands, I also visited an abandoned giant Buddha temple in Thailand. I went into the jungle in Laos, and ate amazing food from so many different cultures in Malaysia (George Town and Cameron Highlands were my favourites food places), and I am looking forward to many other amazing adventures to come!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Spanish and help practising English and Portuguese. I want to keep learning German and practise more my Portuguese. I'd love to share an outdoor activity, dance and/or some drinks.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversations about literature, movies, music, travels, love and life, worldwide recipes and laughs! It is always something special to laugh with a new friend :)
