About Me
Hello! I'm a 29-year-old male studying maritime archaeology at the University of Cyprus. I got a Bachelor's in History from the University of North Texas (focus: Central/South America) in 2013, but this year I decided to go back to school to learn the skills of an archaeologist.
I've worked a bunch of odd jobs (Uber, tech support, transcriptionist) in the intervening years, and traveled quite a bit (Oceania, Central America, the Mediterranean). I've had this Couchsurfing account since 2013, and I thought I'd try using it again for old time's sake.
Most recently in my life I've been learning to write intensely-researched essays and make digital maps. I've helped raise ancient clay pots from 2300 year old shipwrecks off the coast and document their contents; I've also snorkeled over a sunken Greek harbor. (I expect to learn to scuba dive in the spring.)
I like old-fashioned stuff, as you might imagine: classical music, classical art, traditional foods and drinks, folk music. I'm into photography (see me on instagram at abt.abroad) and cooking; I really like to cook for other people.
After a crazy December of essay-writing, I'm currently traveling in Central Europe. Today, 27 December, I have just arrived in Budapest from Bucharest. My initial impression of Budapest is fantastic, hahaha. I'm looking forward to being here at least a week. I'd just like to see some museums and maybe do a bit of writing; if I can stay with someone here on Couchsurfing, I'd love to just do some hanging out too.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Saving money is great, but at this point in my life I'm not super worried about that, haha. I'd like to meet people who believe in sharing experiences, and Couchsurfing has always seemed like a great way to do that.
I'm old enough to remember what travel was like before Instagram and ultra-modern mass tourism. Things have changed, haven't they? Travel seems like just another way show your social status these days. But I feel like Couchsurfing might connect me to people who don't represent this new-fangled way of doing things.
