About Me
Hello!
I'm from Lithuania, a small country in northern Europe, which most people have heard, but know very little about it. In this country, I grew up in the capital city Vilnius, which I call my home and love to come back to after all my journeys.
I'm a full-time student of philosophy at Vilnius University, and I juggle a lot of hobbies. I love traveling, both in cities swarming between people, seeing art galleries and wonderful architecture, and in nature with a big backpack far away from other people. I also sail a lot in summer months, usually in lakes with small two-person racing boats, but once in a while, I sail with bigger sailboats in the open seas. Another sport I love is rock climbing, though I never actually tried it outdoors, and I would absolutely love to do so. Moving from more active hobbies, I love to read. Now, I mostly read philosophy and classical literature, but I used to read a lot of fantasy books back in a day. Oh, and I absolutely love history! My main interest is in culture and how it changed through time and what it led up to. I tend to see how people flourish in different environments and what helps them to do so, instead of the opposite (that's why war facts do not interest me as much).
But above all, I love living. Feeling the blood rushing down my arteries and veins, lungs breathing in the air that surrounds me. Feeling everything move around as I stand still, or to move when environment is calm as never.
My travels started in Lithuania, where I visited hundreds of towns and villages and hiked a lot of kilometers. I really enjoy my county with all of its pros and cons, and I love to share stories about it. One of my favorite and most humorous is that in Lithuania, there's a natural monument which is called the biggest rock, but it's a size of regular minivan. Also, our highest "mountain" is 294m above sea level, which is actually just a high field. If we meet up, along with my own stories, I would gladly share the ones of my homeland.
But because of our lack of mountains, small size, or my big curiosity, I always tend to wish to see the world beyond my country's borders, to see and hear the stories from far and near. That's why I'm here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I just started traveling, I noticed that when I would come to a different country I would always be in some sort of separate ecosystem from the locals. Hotel rooms are always sterile and empty. Hostels are quite vibrant, but you only meet other travelers who are also in your outsider ecosystem. Only by meeting locals did I manage to get through this invisible barrier and was able to truly get to know other cultures. And what better way to meet locals, if not by being here! My most memorable travel experiences were thanks to couchsurfing, and they left lasting impression on me. In this community of very interesting and vibrant people (and I know that you are such, dear reader), it is wonderful to expand my worldview and let the others take a look at mine.

Music, Movies, and Books
I adore music, but as most people, the songs I listen to vary across a lot of genres. Nevertheless, the biggest part of my listening time goes to jazz, punk rock, and classical. And some electronic too. If I had to pick one song that would most accurately show my taste, it would be "Summon The Fire" by the band called "The Comet is Coming", they are phenomenal and I recommend that you check them out.
In literature, now I read classics, and my absolute favorites are interwar period writers: Hemingway, Remarque, Zweig, Gobrowicz, Witkiewicz, Pessoa. When I was younger, I read a lot of fantasy and adventure literature, and my absolute favorites are "Momo" and "Neverending Story" by Michael Ende and books by Jules Verne.
Finally, despite seeing hundreds of movies, I still find it hard to talk about them. I guess movies are made for watching them, not talking about them. Despite that, here are my favorite movies and series: "8 1/2", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Werckmeister Harmonies", "The New Pope", "Legion" TV series.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've lived and I keep on living! And that's amazing!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach history of Lithuania and by doing so, history of northern and eastern Europe. Also, I can cook Lithuanian food and talk about cultural stuff (songs, riddles, tales). And share interesting (I hope) stories about how it feels to sail in the ocean without seeing the shore for days, how it feels to stand on the edge of volcano, or how pop out from the Vilnius sewers in the middle of the field.
And I want to learn about anything that you're passionate about.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I share the burden of chores, especially washing dishes and carrying heavy stuff. I can fix some minor things around the house or cook some Lithuanian food. And at last, I can share stories and be a conversation partner.
