ABOUT ME

I moved half way across the globe as a child and for a very long time lived precariously with my family, in caravans and temporary rented accomodation... All I wanted out of life was a permanent home and a settled life style. Now I find myself getting itchy feet and a wish to explore. I love meeting new people and having adventures. I'd rather find a ride-share with a stranger than take a train - who knows where you'll end up or who you'll meet? I essentially believe in the goodness of the human soul and choose to trust people I've never met.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is about opening your eyes, and looking for opportunities to learn and to exchange. Joy can be found in the simplest of things, and the world with all the people, animals and things in it have some amazing things to say if you sit quietly...and listen...

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been hosting a long time now, and I still love it. Hosting people allows me to experience other cultures and people in the comfort of my own home! I also love being a part of people's stories and adventures, and have gained as much as I have given over the years.
I live with my partner, who had never heard of it before he moved in with me, but embraced it from day one and loves being able to meet interesting people and share experiences.

I've hosted a lot of people, and I've been hosted myself just a few times.

Interests

I am very interested in the natural world around me, I also love making things, mainly out of textiles - the feeling of using your own hands to produce something of value. I do poi, I make hedgerow wine, and I make felt. I am happy to share and trade skills with people :-)
Our lifestyle is fairly active - we enjoy walking, cycling and pretty much anything outdoors. We both like to go climbing, surfing and have been snowboarding, although we are very much beginners at these things!

Music, Movies, and Books

I read pretty much anything and everything, I've always got a book or two on the go - usually something I've already read several times (my books are like old friends) I love old English classics in particular but I'm always willing to take a recommendation from someone who loves books too.
My favourite movies have got to be the Monty Python films :-)
I am interested in a wide variety of music, and I like anything acoustic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

All the kindness and generosity I've received from total strangers when I've hitch-hiked up and down the country has made me want to pass on random acts of kindness to others, it's amazing how karma circulates that way, and there are some really good people in the world. I've been moved to tears by people reaching out a helping hand, and it's the simplest things that can make your day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to make wine out of pretty much anything that you'll find growing wild, and I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine.
I can spin poi, but I don't think there is such a thing as an expert, and I would love to learn new tricks, as well as teach them :-)
If anyone else wants to come climbing, cycling or walking with us, it's always a pleasure to share the interest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a good cook, I'm sociable and like talking to people... What can I say? I will share what is needed, whether it's using my hands to help build and make things, or sharing a bottle of wine ;-)
