About Me

Hi! I'm Rossana, my friends and fam call me Rose, for short. I'm a Radiology resident in Mérida, México. I love my profession, but sadly, it's not a very travel-friendly one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined CS in July 2008 while on a month-long trip in Europe; I sadly did not get to share in the CS experience due to connectivity problems while on the go (more precisely: lack of connectivity). Oh, the dark ages.

I've traveled around quite a bit since then, though I admit that my most of my hosts have been friends I've met through school, other friends, and while traveling. I've done a bit of hosting, as well, though I'm sorry to say I had very little interaction with my guests during those stays due to a particularly swamped study and work schedule :(.

My main expectation from CS is meeting new people and making friends from all over the world. You may have read this on every other profile, but I truly am convinced that the best experiences you can take with you are the ones shared with others.

Interests

I love visiting new places, so I try to seize any rare travel opportunity that comes my way! I also love music, especially rock music and going to concerts and music festivals (travel + music = ❤). I like to sing, but I'm not a really good singer (oops). I really enjoy watching sporting events, I'm a terrible athlete though. I love the feeling of watching a football match in the stadium and will always prefer that experience over watching a match on a HD television screen.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music: too many to narrow them down --The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond, Beck, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Guns N Roses, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Garbage, Metallica, Beirut, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Belle and Sebastian, Alabama Shakes, The Strokes...

Favorite movies: also too many to name, most fantasy-epics ie Lord of the Rings/Hobbit; most Quentin Tarantino movies - I say "most" because I haven't seen all of them Same goes for the Wes Anderson movies. Star Wars. Most of the Batman movies excluding Batman Forever and Batman V Superman. V forVendetta. Pretty much all of the superhero movies. Inception. I'd much rather watch an action or comedy movie than a chick-flick or girly rom-com. I may be the only female on Earth that does NOT like The Notebook. I do not enjoy horror movies and avoid them at all costs. Sometimes my friends trick me into watching scary movies, but I'll get over the spook in a couple of week---ehrm days.

Books: The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende, One hundred years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, 1984 by George Orwell, The adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, a Song of Ice and Fire books by George R. R. Martin, The Harry Potter books, several Mario Vargas Llosa books, most of Jorge Luis Borges' stories, Rayuela (Hopscotch) by Julio Cortazar, Isle of Passion by Laura Restrepo, several Neil Gaiman books.....the list goes on....

Favorite shows: Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, Modern Family, Stranger Things (can tolerate the scary parts), Archer, Dexter, The Crown, Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Narcos, Club de Cuervos, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Broad City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project (guilty pleasure).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jumping off an 8 meter (~26 ft) cliff/waterfall while canyoning in my home state. It took all my resolve to pull myself together and make the jump, and the feeling was exhilarating!

Not travel related, but I will never forget the first time I delivered a baby (not mine -- a patient's). Truly amazing and one of those moments that make you stop in awe just admiring LIFE.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching: glad to share any of the knowledge I may have. I'm a pretty good knitter and crocheter (? is that even a word), which is probably not a very coveted talent, but I have taught others, and apparently I'm not a terrible teacher. I enjoy crafting and cooking and will gladly "teach" what I know to anyone interested.

I'd like to learn to play the piano again; I took lessons when I was a child, but haven't had formal instruction for the past 20 years. Singing lessons wouldn't hurt, either.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share with hosts: conversations, memories, stories, and a little surprise from Home as a way of saying Thank You!

I am not available to host at the moment; Apologies!!! Working on making it possible to offer you a place to stay soon!
